  1. Can anyone explain to me why you'd want to play Alliance in World of Warcraft ? Bonuspoints if you can also explain why you'd want to play World of Warcraft.

    1. @critialcloudkicker I've seen a documentary about WoW on public television late night and they claimed that the majority of players that still play this game use it to stay in contact with old friends or made friends there. Also the documentation made some interesting parallels to sports clubs about the organisation of guilds and raids. The documentation made an effort to display WoW to be beyond just a game (like that Blizzard hired economics experts to balance the item market system). It was quite interesting to watch but it didn't change my mind that WoW is a bad game.

      1. @adiwan That's actually a way of putting it I can not find myself disagreeing with at all. Although I guess you could say that you can add "Stockholm Syndrome" to the equasion if you really want to. Pretty sure there are at least half a milion people who are still playing the game because they have that really hard to get achievement for which they have done so much to achieve it. It however does not really change much for the gameplay though. Is it a bad game by any stretch of the imagination ? well, in my humble opinion, no, but it almost only uses dated concepts. Then again, Remember Guild Wars 2 ? Yea look at what happned to that thing.

        1. @critialcloudkicker The Stockholm Syndrome may apply. The documentation I saw also showed the emotional attatchment to the leveled-up character. They also showed the response of a player after deleting his character because of a bet (I guess, it was late) (it lead to tears). The player said that he was very sad because there were many memories attatched to that character and the player knew that it was silly because it is just a game but the player couldn't resist reacting differently.

          1. @adiwan Is that a form of "abbandonement issue" rather than Stockholm then ?

            1. @critialcloudkicker It was mostly an additional remark about the emotional aspect of the meta game. You can add the monthly fees and and the stuff I mentioned and get the Stockholm Syndrome package as a result. ;)

              1. @adiwan I know that. I was trying to separate them into nice little packages for my own cranial processing. Whist also making sure we are still on the same page... Now to flip a page... It baffles me that I am seriously contemplating joining a ragtag band of old WoW players and IRL friends in WoW. I have not played the game itself since the middle of Cataclysm due to it falling "out of my taste". I used to be on the Horde side back then. However my newly found WoW friends exclusively play Alliance ( because they have friends who are Alliance ) ... ... ... I am in the middle of a "I know I shouldn't, but I kinda want to" debate with myself... ... ... Alliance Scum

                1. @critialcloudkicker Here comes the group pressure into the play. It depends on how much you like your friends and like the raid grind. Personally I don't think it's worth paying about 11-13€ a month for a grind fest and a huge time investment. I've heard that some instances and raids can take up half a day to complete. Well... I'm a singleplayer player and a retro game hoarder. Don't value my opinion too much.

                  1. @adiwan I went as far as to get the unlimited pre-lvl 20 endless try account again. If I am not gagging from boredom within 100 minutes of having to level a new toon I guess I'd know enough. Even with group pressure the size of which could move planets I do not think that I could ever love to do something if it would involve something as dull and repetitive and grindly as leveling... Also with my experience as Vanilla raidleader, yes, even if you had to wait for at least 35/40 people to be ready before you could march on yet another boss, even if the raid-groups have been permascaled back to 25 people ( or 10 ) I can see why it sometimes takes half a day to coordinate another boss-attempt... So your ( our ? ) vision on half a day raid's can be rather slented. Is it worth it ? Well if you have more to do than just wait till everyone is ready. Perhaps share life stories with the other toons over VOIP ? That can really be worth it.

                  2. @adiwan ( continued ) ... Just because you are a singleplayer gamer ( and I can totally understand why ) does not mean your opinion should not be valued. However it does require caution and a touch of empathy. Even if we are pretty much from the same camp right now
