@awlditzy It's just practical. Some people will just try to rush to the bathroom, but I see that as wasted effort and unnecessary risk. I just keep a bucket nearby as that means I can just sit on the bed, use the bucket, and then walk to the bathroom without any sort of rush to clean up and go back into bed. But I guess it'd make sense that people in the service would take up the habit. It's just the practical, hardy kind of thing that fits that lifestyle. Basically having everything basic around so you don't have to "leave your post" for minor things.

@rednorth Just unload the bucket in the toilet and wash it. IMO faster, cleaner and easier than disposing of a bag full of puke.

@nerthos Well when we would mobilise to visit outposts in the mountains sometimes those visits would be lasting longer than a couple days and you'd be quick to get a bucket for yourself. Not just for vomiting but hell, sometimes we'd have a bottle or five of something between everyone and it'd become a rough night.

@nerthos not for me, but each to his own. i usually take a mixing bowl and wrap a shopping bag around it so i can grab the bag by the handles so i can just lobe my puke into the trash and put another bag in the bowl. super fast and easy

@awlditzy Buckets sure are useful. The habit has always been around in my family for sick days. Can't say for certain if it didn't originate in the service though, as my grandfather (at least one of them) was there, and my great-grandfather fought in WWI.

@rednorth i consider the idea of throwing a bag of puke into the trash... unsanitary. But yeah, to each their own.
