      1. @northernnarwhal Didn't you also suggest Angel Beats to me once?

        1. @clayinthecarpet Did I? I don't remember. That show is decent but really nothing special.

          1. @northernnarwhal :O! DUDE. It's incredible stuff. The ending is...heart-wrenching is too light of a word.

            1. @clayinthecarpet Yeah, I've seen it. I think it's kind of overrated but get why so many people love it so much.

              1. @northernnarwhal Any suggestions from you, then?

                1. @clayinthecarpet I ended up enjoying OreGairu way more than I thought I would, maybe give that a try. I've seen the main character get compared to Holden from Catcher in the Rye a lot and there really are a lot of parallels between the two, so I guess given that Catcher is one of my favourite books it makes sense that I'd love the main character so much.

                  1. @northernnarwhal Honestly, it looks like one of those heavily convoluted animes that never ties anything up in the end because the manga is still ongoing and has massive amounts of issues already. Feh.

                    1. @clayinthecarpet Not really, it's actually a show with a lot of focus. Admittedly there isn't an incredibly prominent narrative but it's not really interesting in telling you some grand story as much as it's interested in exploring its themes, which it does really well. The characters are generally really well fleshed out and interesting, and the dialogue is always insightful and engaging.

                      1. @northernnarwhal I hate animes that can't wrap up their own storyline because there's no set ending to anything and it just goes on and on and on and on. I want a complete, solidified idea that I can watch, start to finish, without a never-ending stream of events that leave the viewer wishing for more.

                        1. @clayinthecarpet I don't have a problem with the openness of the ending, especially since there is going to be a second season this year. It's one of those shows that's more concerned with the journey than the destination, which in a way actually lends itself to making the show feel a lot less predictable. You asked for a recommendation and that's a show I've enjoyed enough to recommend.

                      2. @northernnarwhal that sounds pretty interesting.

                        1. @awlshouldhaveknown Yeah, it's one of those shows with a great understanding of what it feels like to be young, cynical, and self conscious. The romance and comedy elements both work quite well most of the time too, neither feel forced which is surprising.

                          1. @northernnarwhal i might enjoy it moreso with a more fresh opinion on Catcher; It's added to the list.

                            1. @awlshouldhaveknown While the prose of the show is obviously much less poetic and in depth than that of Catcher, I feel that both share the same insight and exploration of their ideas.
