@jakefromstatefarm Welp, thats, enough weird for one day.
-
@jakefromstatefarm That was a pretty solid single, didn't blow me away but it did whet my appetite for the record. What's your favourite Blur album? I really love Think Tank.
-
@northernnarwhal I'm a lot more into Gorillaz honestly, though I really like Parklife would probably be my favorite.
-
@jakefromstatefarm *and it
-
@jakefromstatefarm Yeah, I think Gorillaz is the superior Damon Albarn project too, just curious as to which Blur album specifically is your favourite. Parklife is a good choice, probably the best of their early albums.
-
@northernnarwhal Also, in terms of Gorillaz, my favorite album is probably D-Sides. I think it benefits from some of it's more gentle tracks, and I wish Plastic Beach had more of that. also, Phase 4 holy papaya I want it on my desk by Monday holy Potato Knishes too much Albarn
-
@jakefromstatefarm Feels good was my fav when I was a kid. Pro secret: they mention ponies.
-
@firestormdangerdash ...and now here's Feels Good from the hit band Monkies !
-
@jakefromstatefarm I like D-Sides as a grab-bag of unreleased or previously unused stuff but also given it's nature these days I might just revisit tracks from it since the lack of cohesion between them doesn't lend itself to an album very well or justify the 2 hour length. It's a popular choice but my favourite Gorillaz release is Demon Days, honestly just their most well written and well put together record for me.
-
@northernnarwhal I agree that it's very well written, and tracks like Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head (probably one of my favorite spoken word pieces of all time) are really unique ventures into unpopular genres. I've listened to the entire album while I was resting my eyes one day and I thought it was amazing then. I think S/T is much more energetic and fun, while DD is really slow and nice to relax to. PB is a blend and sadly, IMO, it made the fun tracks less fun because I got much more out of things like Stylo, On Melancholy Hill, Broken, etc, than I got out of tracks like Superfast Jellyfish. Most of it is brilliant though, and the orchestrated pieces are nearly orgasmic. Oh god, Damon Albarn is like, in my top 3 human beings, at least.
-
@jakefromstatefarm Except for Dirty Harry, that Potato Knishes is funky.
-
@jakefromstatefarm Damon probably wouldn't be the first to come to mind when I think of my favourite musicians, but I've more or less enjoyed all of his projects to varying degrees. I actually liked the atmosphere of Plastic Beach, it was moody but sort of futuristic too. Also, it wasn't on any of their albums but their "DoYaThing" single is a really fun track.
-
@northernnarwhal The DoYaThing video is actually secretly the video for Man Research (Clapper). Ilumminati confirmed. http://youtu.be/ejsjS9V8kaw
-
@jakefromstatefarm MLB2 confirmed
-
@northernnarwhal Are you of the FLAC faith?
-
@jakefromstatefarm I have some albums in FLAC but I don't need it to be in FLAC. I lot of my stuff is 320kbps mp3s and VBRs too.
-
@northernnarwhal Also, I forgot that DoYaThing featured Murphy from LCD Soundsystem. I miss LCD Soundsystem.
-
@jakefromstatefarm YESSSS, LCD Soundsystem are the best. I hadn't truly lived until I heard Sound of Silver for the first time.
-
@northernnarwhal were the best
-
@jakefromstatefarm *cries*
-
@jakefromstatefarm But yeah, the beat on DoYaThing has a VERY distinct James Murphy vibe to it. Lots of polyrhythmic synths and really dancey melodies.
-
@northernnarwhal I'm listening to Soulwax's remix of You Wanted a Hit, (bananaing love Soulwax) and, despite clearly being about the music industry, I'd like to imagine it's about hitmen.
-
@jakefromstatefarm I should listen to more Soulwax, I've heard Any Minute Now and Nite Versions and thought they were both pretty good albums.
-
@northernnarwhal Most of the Remixes we've made for other people over the years except for the one for Einstürzende Neubauten because we lost it and a few we didn't think sounded good enough or just didn't fit in length-wise, but including some that are hard to find because either people forgot about them or simply because they haven't been released yet, a few we really love, one we think is just ok, some we did for free, some we did for money, some for ourselves without permission and some for friends as swaps but never on time and always at our studio in Ghent. is my cherry.
-
@jakefromstatefarm Oh yeah, that remix album with the crazy long title. Reminds me of a Fiona Apple album.
-
@jakefromstatefarm why do you cry sweet prince?
-
@rednorth Because one of the greatest bands of the 00s broke up a few years ago
-
@northernnarwhal I have a knack for weird album titles, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots being one of my favs.
-
@northernnarwhal what band?
-
@rednorth LCD Soundsystem
-
@northernnarwhal *sighs deeply*
-
@rednorth >implying
-
@northernnarwhal Holy batcave I'm dying http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/820594
-
@jakefromstatefarm This album title always makes me laugh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boy_Bands_Have_Won
-
@jakefromstatefarm Also bonus points for liking The Flaming Lips, Yoshimi is an amazing album. You know the pink robots are a metaphor for cancer, right?
-
@northernnarwhal What do you take me for, a walnut?
-
@northernnarwhal >in-sighing
-
@jakefromstatefarm >in-crying
-
@jakefromstatefarm I want your walnuts
