  1. Was "Neon Genesis Evangelion" real, or did I just dream it? Because I'm pretty sure it deserves at least one spot on this list, somewhere. https://youtu.be/bRIiTTwgC3U # Then again, just about any time someone says something good about "One Piece" I tend to throw their credibility right out the window, so....

    1. @scribus How about that fight between Homura and Mami from the Madoka Magica Rebellion Movie? All things considered that was probably the best part of that film.

      1. @northernnarwhal Haven't actually seen that yet. Just the series.

        1. @scribus It's incredibly polarizing, and I cannot stress that enough. It's by far the most indulgent I've ever seen from either Akiyuki Shinbo or Gen Urobuchi, in the sense that the narrative is all things considered this absolute mess until the end of the third act. If we're speaking in terms of the show's "rules", it doesn't so much as rewrite the rules as much as it just burns the entire rulebook (if that makes any sense). It's a thematic departure from the original series and in a say presents a lot of symbolism and motifs that were absent from and contrast the original series. The film is deliberately difficult and the ending will make or break the film for you depending on your perspective. I've heard people call it brilliant and also atrocious. I'm personally still sort of ambivalent, it's probably the most ambivalent I've really felt about a work of entertainment media in a long time. I'd definitely say it should be watched just for the sake of gaining perspective.

            1. @scribus Yeah, I've only seen it online a few times but I wouldn't mind securing myself a Blu-Ray of it sometime.

        2. @scribus So if you don't understand what's going on for most of while watching it, that's okay, it's sort of designed that way. Though visually it's pretty stunning and both the colour motifs and visual metaphors are fantastic, so take that as you will. Ultimately I would say the film's worth watching regardless of whether you like it or not, because setting an artistic analysis aside it's worth watching as a conversation piece alone.
