The end of the session of the current D&D campaing ended with the heroes escaping from an apocalyptic event without knowing it. The magic "atom bomb" fell and the heroes were right outside of the influence area as it happened.

@adiwan Did you look at the explosion?
-
@scrybus There was no explosion. There was only fog and screaming. A lot of screaming. And even more fog and screaming.

@adiwan Oh. Well, do cool guys look at fog and screaming?

@scrybus Only the living can enjoy the fog and screaming in that moment.Our characters just left the country "Cyre" and the magic effect of the "bomb" affected every living being that were on the grounds. Everything died. Every corpse there never rots and food never spoils. But being in the affected area after that incident will be weakened until it dies too. Living constructs are the only creatures that can survive living there.

@adiwan Brutal.

@scrybus Indeed. It was so brutal that the war of the 5 nations stopped immediately and a peace treaty was initiated soon after. This is why our group plays in the Eberron campaign setting. It's a magic steam punk post world war II society with klingon elves, druid orks, magic androids, magic airships, magic railroads, and huge continent-encompassing corporations (houses).
