  1. Playing the first half hour of The Witcher and I'm not enjoying this game. The fighting system is frustrating, the story is clunky, and the camera and controls are not doing what they should. Why does it get so much praise?

    1. @adiwan I genuinely did not notice the Witcher getting like ANY praise until Fallout 4 was announced.

      1. @mrmattimation When Witcher 3 came out I heard so much about how great the Witcher series is. Maybe the second part is great but the first game leaves a bad impression.

    2. @adiwan I genuinely enjoyed the first game. IMO the only big flaw it had was the inventory system restricting you to only carrying one weapon of each type and not letting you loot extras for selling. That can be fixed with a mod though. The story of 1 is kinda weird because it was made specifically so it didn't contradict anything from the books, so they decided to make something only tangentially related. It was easy enough playing in the third person camera, no idea about the top view as I barely used it.

      1. @skellythos It explains some problems of the clunky introduction at the beginning. I tried to play both the top view camera and the 3rd person view and both feel weird and not ideal. The camera is always in my way. In my first 30 minutes I haven't any problems with item management. The biggest sin is the fighting system. It takes ages to hit the enemies and it is repetitive. The Elder Scrolls did it better with just hitting a button and that felt better and more responsive.

        1. @adiwan If you aren't hitting enemies it means you're using the wrong style. You have three, though group you shouldn't use unless forced to at the beginning. As a general rule, try fast and if it's not doing much damage try heavy. If you go with heavy on a fast enemy you just won't hit it.

          1. @skellythos I get it how the system works but I think that the QTE style on clicking at the right time to extend the combo isn't intuitive, especially when a missed click stops everything and it takes a long time to start the attack again. More or less my problems can be summed up with "delayed and mismatched input response", I think.
