    1. @tiffany If you really wanted to you could frame the first Pokemon movie through the ethical caveats of genetic experimentation.

      1. @northernnarwhal Ethics doesn't really come into this question I'm doing but I'd definitely write about that if it comes up for real

        1. @tiffany It's probably the most distinct thematic element of that film aside from the usual beats of "believe in yourself!" and "friendship always triumphs!" that tend to be ubiquitous in the franchise. Whether it's an incredibly meaningful, successful, or convincing articulation of that theme is something else, but it's definitely there.

          1. @northernnarwhal Ethics is a big ol' bullet point in my notes; sadly we can't just pick and choose what to write about unless the exam question is super general

            1. @tiffany That's a bummer, Mewtwo himself is by far the most interesting part of the first Pokemon film

              1. @northernnarwhal I wrote about his opening scene for this one, as well as Mew's

                1. @tiffany At some point in 2016 I'd like to marathon the first few Pokemon films and see how they hold up, since I haven't seen any of them in years

                  1. @northernnarwhal The first one is actually painful to get through lol

                    1. @tiffany I think I'd be very surprised if I found any of them to be "good" films by my current evaluative priorities, but it'd be interesting to revisit them if only because of the role they played in my childhood.

                      1. @northernnarwhal This is the film that got me into the franchise in the first place which just shows to go you

                        1. @tiffany I think the first one I watched was Pokemon 2000, but I later got a DVD of Mewtwo Strikes Back and enjoyed it as a kid, as well a few of the subsequent films.

                          1. @northernnarwhal I think I watched them in order up to Destiny Deoxys which was the last one we had physical ownage of, then stopped keeping track with D&P where I gave up

                            1. @tiffany I believe the most recent one I physically own is the Lucario one, but I remember watching the Arceus one online with a group of friends back when it came out and thinking it was awful.

                              1. @northernnarwhal I wanted to watch the Arceus one purely to learn how to pronounce Arceus, but the anime pronounces Regice in two different ways so I didn't miss anything

                                1. @tiffany I don't care what people say, it's "arceeus" not "arkeyess"

                                  1. @techdisk heheh, arse-eus

                                    1. @tiffany yes that.

                                    2. @tiffany Welp, there it is

Monday, 04-Jan-16 19:30:29 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                2. @tiffany I had always pronounced it as "are see us" until I heard it in the film as "ark ee us", which threw me off. Regice is an enigma.
