What I miss about having a house is being able to have fires, can't really do that outside an apartment building.

@awl I don't know if I will ever live in a house. To rent one, one may need roommates to keep the bill down. I also don't feel comfortable being confined to one area by buying if I need to get a different job somewhere else.

@m14brony You really only buy if you feel comfortable with the job you have and you think you can get a good return, like phenomenal, if you decide to sell it at least 5 years down the road, even then that's a crap shoot. Still, land would be great.

@awl I'm already trying to get out of the HVAC service field due to "feast or famine" hours, bad benefits, and low wages. The stress will kill me long before I get to that $60K-$70K salary range. I need to get an onsite HVAC/Maintenance mechanic job somewhere (hospital, factory, school, etc.). Although if I do ever buy a place, I may be damn near dead by the time the bank no longer owns it. :P

@m14brony The problem with trades is luck to get a good high pay for most of them.

@awl Indeed. Even that $30/hr. at the top of a scale (or at a union job) may not always mean much if one is getting 20-30 hours a week in a "slow" season. Some people I know at a certain place also said I was snubbed for a $25.00/hr. maintenance mechanic position because the "head engineer" was intimidated by my certifications and technical expertise.
