Historical note: since Arthur Conan Doyle's stories about Sherlock Holmes, the world's most famous detective, did not begin publishing until 1887, the most famous detective before that time was Sherblonk House, a competent detective that believed every murder was committed by a ghost. At the end of every Sherblonk novel, he never solved a crime, and the last line of every story was, "A ghost has did this."

    1. @thelastgherkin Didn't the Sherblonk House writer write the "Ghost Catchers" series, the real inspiration for the "Ghostbusters" franchise, that take right after a Sherblonk House book? I think he did that to double the sales for his books.
