  1. @moonman @hfaust I feel Google does a bit too much in the name of "safety" like blocking unsigned executables from downloading in Chrome.

    1. @normandy @hfaust They have a unique problem because they're a browser provider, their product are the largest target of malware.

      1. @moonman @hfaust I suppose. It just get annoying when running across a false positive.

        1. @normandy @hfaust I take the same position as you, I wish all that kiwi could be turned off, but for every one of us there's like x0,000 normal people that just get 0wned by downloading crapware.

          1. @moonman I went a year with an outdated windows xp without antivirus, fooling around on 4chan and weird sites, and had absolutely no issues. My gf's brother only needs an hour or two to infect a computer to the point you get desktop ad popups.

    2. @normandy That and "certificate expired, you can't enter the site nope"

      1. @nerthos @normandy That's not really a big deal since you can just click a button and skip past the warning screens.

        1. @mrmattimation Unless the site has got HSTS enabled, in which case you can't.

      2. @nerthos Sometimes you can click advanced and get to the site anyways, but sometimes they don't even let you do that.

        1. @normandy @mrmattimation At times it does, at times it's just a pain. I'd like if for all of these things they'd just asked you if you know what you're doing without having to look for some advanced option or messing with the settings.

          1. @nerthos @normandy @mrmattimation For a while there was a push to make browsers so self-signed/expired certs still passed through without a clickthrough but marked the site as untrusted in the address bar. Not sure where that went.

          2. @nerthos @mrmattimation My guess is that they want to make sure the dumb people won't just click through.

            1. @normandy @why @moonman I seriously hate this "for the lowest denominator" crap. They should just give you a "you're responsible for this" prompt and just let you, and screw whoever gets infected.

        2. @normandy @nerthos reminds me of the java control panel (or whatever it was called) which had 2 security options: "high" or "very high"

          2. @why I think they labelled it that way because someone would have to be high, and likely *very* high, if they thought that the java plugin was secure.
