  1. Conputer people, how would you guys explain what are proxies to someine who doesnt know computer things? (i have to learn it but the book i got only said they were apps to controll stuff in firewalls)

        1. @mushi you're thinking of Proxy tunnelling
          it's a specific use of proxies and it takes forever to explain, involving port forwarding and SSL
          basically just tell them it lets you bypass the firewall
          Like entering a Police barricade by claiming to be the sweeper
          the cops know there's no sweeping needed, but they let you through kuz there's no written exception that says "no Sweepers"

    3. @mushi Maybe giving a meaningful usecase helps non-computery people to understand what a proxy is. Proxies are useful because of the general consensus that we "don't shoot the messenger". So to avoid getting shot, you let someone else run back and forth with your communication. !security
