    1. @triscy Hey sup trisc. It's been a while, hasn't it?

Friday, 20-Jul-12 03:55:26 UTC from web
      1. @redenchilada Yea it has been quite a while. I've been occupied a lot; my hobbies have made me relatively uninterested in coming around here/unable to. I've been streaming video games on Twitch.tv a lot.

        1. @triscy Heh, I feel like I've been wasting away recently doing nothing but playing videogames. I swear I've gotten into three different online games in the past month.

          1. @redenchilada You should come watch my streams and such. :3 http://www.twitch.tv/triscygaming I play pretty much every day nowadays during this summer break.

              1. @redenchilada L4D1 is better and I'm not big on Spiral Knights. :P I'm trying to get a pirate crew made on http://www.puzzlepirates.com/

                1. @triscy Never played the original L4D; as for Pirates, I don't wanna get into MORE commitment games! D:

                  1. @redenchilada L4D2 is horrible when it comes to Versus mode, which I'm not fond of repeatedly playing Campaign. L4D1 had a better balance of infected classes for versus, making it so that a team of infected player was regularly deadly instead of being stuck with a spitter or jockey. The Charger is fine, but my best L4D would be L4D2 with the only additions being melee weapons and the Deagle. Maybe the AK47.

                    1. @triscy The balance seems fine to me. The players usually make a fair amount of progress and then die in our games.

                      1. @redenchilada I dislike the Spitter and Jockey strongly. They make L4D2 versus annoying as the infected team. In L4D1, you only had Hunter, Boomer, and Smoker. It was a good team with classes that actually did direct damage. Plus I got to play Hunter a lot more, and I loved bouncing everywhere. I'm actually really depressed that NONE of my friends nowadays play L4D1.

                    2. @triscy l4D1 was just much better.

                    1. @abigpony I preferred Bioshock to the L4D games. This is mostly because I prefer mutated insane people to zombies, because oh god I am so tired of zombies, and also because I enjoy the claustrophobic lonesome experience of surviving Rapture. The survival elements in L4D typically boiled down to game elements making me helpless unless another player isn't also having his controller being rendered useless by the prevalence of zombies whose sole design is meant to keep one player indisposed.

                      1. @crusader8 Well when L4D came out, it was just the beginning of the zombie craze. At that point, they weren't played out and it really became a standard for the genre. The main problem I have personally with either L4D is that it's oversimplified in that there's no challenge and you can move through the game practically without stopping. I never liked bioshock mainly because it moved too slow for me. It was boring gameplay and then when something DID happen, it's like, "eh, that was kind of cool i guess."

Friday, 20-Jul-12 04:21:15 UTC from web
                        1. @abigpony Here's a spoiler: L4D did not kickstart the zombie craze, nor is the zombie craze that new. I will agree that a combination of L4D's popularity with Walking Dead's overwhelming success as a non Marvel/DC comic really put the craze in overdrive, but suffice it to say zombies were getting old for me before that game came out. As far as Bioshock goes, I am aware that there is a tension and suspense that I experience in that game that more seasoned gamers never will. I play a game for story and atmosphere, and the actual gameplay itself is fine for me as long as it functions and doesn't detract from what I'm enjoying. Others play it for the game itself and the story/atmosphere is the footnote.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 04:26:57 UTC from web
                          1. @crusader8 I meant more that they revived it. Zombies have gone through phases since a long-bananas time. Walking Dead hasn't contributed to anything. The atmosphere for Bioshock was generic for what it was and I couldn't find a visible story in it. neither of these really bothered me much as I couldn't enjoy playing it in any way. It wasn't really bad per se, but not my thing. if it's good at setting the atmosphere and stuff, then "seasoned gamers" as you put it should connect with it as well. Either way, I suppose it's a personal preference thing and I may not have enjoyed as much as I could have with it as I couldn't keep a hold of the story.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 04:32:32 UTC from web
                            1. @abigpony Walking Dead didn't contribute to zombie popularity? Lol. By seasoned gamers, I mean something that's more complex to explain but the long and short boils down to the desensitized reception of action games. AKA play enough shooters and you stop caring why your dude chooses to fight and you just take it for granted (Mega Man X actually addressed this in its brief narrative). Play enough zombie games and you don't really read too much into the game's attempts to convey how the characters are struggling to accept the reality. Bioshock had a story that you had to piece together yourself from the characters and environment and not really one that was a string meant for you to follow. I'm sorry if you missed out on it but you're also in a starkly contrasted minority when you describe your feelings on Bioshock.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 04:39:47 UTC from web
                              1. @crusader8 So you claim to be immune to this desensitizing or something? I don't play many action games and I rather enjoy games for the stories, I just like gameplay to match. Maybe I'll give bioshock a shot again if it gets a good sale on steam here.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 04:45:59 UTC from web
                                1. @abigpony better put, I don't let gameplay win me over to the point I play games for the sake of playing them. Working at Gamestop for five years showed me how hard it was to describe others how certain games impress me or have an emotional impact because most of these guys literally buy a new game because they're not currently playing anything. I have to extremely identify with a game's concept, story or characters to get excited about it in the first place. Even then I don't feel like playing it unless I feel like the game is doing something thematically I haven't experienced before, like with Catherine.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 04:51:17 UTC from web
                                  1. @crusader8 I don't even know what Catherine was about besides poor sales.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 04:58:27 UTC from web
                                    1. @abigpony Catherine is about a guy who is literally fighting his relationship demons in dreams where he is forced to constantly climb deadly towers of falling blocks and traps. Panic ensues when he discovers others having similar dreams who are turning up dead in the news. It's a really hard and challenging puzzle game with imo tremendous replay value, although it was difficult for me to sympathize with the main character at several points in the game.

                                        1. @abigpony made by the team but I hate persona games but this one I liked. It's not about teens shooting themselves in the head to activate their powers. As a persona hater myself I can tell you Catherine does not disappoint

                                          1. @crusader8 It looks like a platformer the likes of which I'm not a big fan of at it's core. it's close enough in style to persona it seems that I wouldn't enjoy the story, either.

                  3. @redenchilada Puzzle Pirates is actually what Three RIngs made before they made Spiral Knights. They still maintain it as well. I tried to play it but I couldn't get past the UI.

                    1. @toksyuryel I saw when I was getting SK off Steam. But like I said, I'm trying to quit getting into "commitment games"; y'know, the ones you have to play for a good long while to get your time's worth out of them.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 06:16:19 UTC from web
                      1. @redenchilada SK is generally pretty good for casual play if you just want to play a little at a time; you can still have a lot of fun on just the mist you're given each day. It's when you start spending money on it and buying things like weapon slot upgrades that turn it into a bit of a time commitment to ensure you get good value out of it. If you never spend a dime on it, and you avoid those upgrades, then you don't have to make a commitment out of playing it.

                        1. @toksyuryel I mean continuing to come back to it. I can't just play a game for three days and abandon it, which is what happens when I have too many options. (Besides, I've played it pretty much non-stop the last few days without spending a dime (by freeloading off of you (sorry (I hope that's ok (because I appreciate it (at this point I'm just stacking parenthesis because I can (way parenthesis (ok I should go to bed now))))))))

                          1. @redenchilada It's no problem, I like to help people out within reason ☺ And you really have not cost me all that much energy at all. If it makes you feel better you can always pay me back when you start being able to buy it with crowns more regularly. I dunno what went wrong with that run, the payout was bizarrely low for a T2 run.

                              1. @redenchilada You didn't use my elevator pass. I'm the only one that can use it; when I put you on my tab you were using my energy.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 06:25:48 UTC from web
                                1. @toksyuryel That's what I was trying to say. You've paid most of my energy today when the elevator pass should mean you don't have to cover it. I dunno, I'm probably just getting anxious over stupid things.

Friday, 20-Jul-12 06:27:43 UTC from web
                                  1. @redenchilada cover any energy for your playtime, rather. Buh, my words aren't coming out like I want them to right now. I'm going to bed.

                                  2. @redenchilada Seriously don't worry about it ☺ I wouldn't do it if it was a problem. And I'm sure I won't have to do it at all soon since you're so close to getting Tier 2 clearance. Just need to find a better gate that doesn't have such a bad payout as that one does.
