  1. @minti @toksyuryel Bluh, I'm here. What's all this about me disappearing? D:

    1. @bitshift You should've hid in IRC more and made me look like a crazy old cat lady. :3

        4. @minti Other IRC channels (and servers) are also available. :P (Well, in my case, at least. I would assume Red also has more than 1 channel open in his client, but none of the others overlap with my selection.)

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:39:57 UTC from web
          1. @bitshift I have four channels; sanic, sanic and pony, mirror of sanic and pony, and a friend's generic channel. :/

        5. @minti Except of course, I never actually remember to check them unless I have my terminal open anyway, BUT STILL. #

          1. @bitshift Then again, if I was on IRC I'd totally forget to pay attention to RDN so bluh.

    2. @bitshift You were gone and your avatar was the default one and we haven't seen you in three days and I was worried and thought your computer exploded but now you're back so I'm happy again. *deep breath* Hi.

    3. @bitshift I was worried about you D: haven't seen you online in three days ; ;

      1. @toksyuryel Next time I take a break to finally get through something big I've been meaning to do for a long time (but procrastinated on - hence the break being needed), I'll be sure to leave an "I Aten't Dead" sign. :P

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:43:57 UTC from web
        1. @bitshift What did you accomplish? :O

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:45:26 UTC from web
          1. @minti Well, I guess technically it was two things, though mostly the first one. Those being Fallout: Equestria (I started reading it way back when I had only been here for a week, took a break to clear my head after the big Fgnoyr Gjragl-Avar [va jbeqf fb vg trgf ebg13'q] reveal, and it just kinda turned into a several-month break), and actually rewriting some very old code that may or may not be relevant to my usage of this site, depending on where I go next with it.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:52:17 UTC from web
            1. @bitshift Fallout: Equestria you say? I thought about reading that, is it worth it?

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:54:04 UTC from web
              1. @pvtflutters Did i read tha tpost right? In a word: YES. i cant stress that enough. Y E S

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:57:58 UTC from web
              2. @pvtflutters ...that's complicated. On the one hand, it really is an amazing story. On the other hand, it gets _very_ dark before it gets light again (thankfully, it does), so if you prefer your stories to have a lighter tone... it's probably not the best choice. (Also, it's looooooong, but you probably knew that already.)

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:04:43 UTC from web
                1. @bitshift I'm not too familiar with the genres of fan-fiction. Dark as in bloody? Or sad?

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:18:17 UTC from web
                  1. @pvtflutters Dark as in both.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:19:36 UTC from web
                    1. @techdisk42 Oh, idk then, I might check it out. The thing is, is that all I've read recently has been dark then. Rainbow factory, cupcakes, ect. I was wanting something that's not so... bloody. Any recommendations?

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:22:42 UTC from web
                      1. @pvtflutters Well, in this case the blood and gore and stuff is kept to a very tolerable minimum, and not just there to scare you. And it ends on a much much MUCH lighter note than either rainbow factory or cupcakes. Ponies die, but its handled well. I still recomend it.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:27:28 UTC from web
                  2. @pvtflutters Almost entirely the latter. There _is_ blood and a little gore, but (with a few very brief exceptions, which are still story-relevant, rather than there just because) they are definitely not on the level of a "gore fic".

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:20:29 UTC from web
                    1. @bitshift I might give it a try, although recently all I've read have been gore fics. (Rainbow Factory, cupcakes, and another that I can't think of :P) so I may want something lighter.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:28:10 UTC from web
                      1. @pvtflutters Fo:e is no gore fic.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:28:40 UTC from web
                        1. @techdisk42 Ok, I might just give it a read when I have a few extra hours. After all (like you said) it's long.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:30:50 UTC from web
                          1. @pvtflutters It's more than a few hours long. That's not to say you _shouldn't_ read it (because you should), just that you're gonna need more than just a few hours to get through the whole thing, no matter how fast you read.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:32:21 UTC from web
                            1. @bitshift It's that long?! I'll still begin and try and finish it anyway. You've perked my interest in it.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:33:51 UTC from web
                              1. @pvtflutters It's longer than all but a few "real" books I've read, so... yeah. It's that long.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:35:05 UTC from web
                                1. @bitshift How long did it take you to finish?

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:36:32 UTC from web
                                  1. @pvtflutters Well, I read the whole thing over the past three days, but that was with me taking 6-8 solid hours each day for it, so... 24 hours total is certainly not out of the question.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:39:21 UTC from web
                                    1. @bitshift I'll read a bit of it tonight. Perhaps I could tell you my thoughts on it in the morning?

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:41:50 UTC from web
                                      1. @pvtflutters Seems like a plan.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:42:31 UTC from web
                                2. @bitshift And its just as good if not better than a great many of published books. And this is a fanfic were talking about.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:39:10 UTC from web
                                  1. @techdisk42 Oh, certainly. It's definitely worth the time it took, I'm just not sure sinking that much time into a story is something for everyone.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:41:06 UTC from web
                                    1. @bitshift if it was shorter it would be an amazing way to join the herd.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:43:00 UTC from web
                                      1. @techdisk42 Except that someone not already in the herd would miss _so many_ of the little references. :P

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:44:56 UTC from web
                                        1. @bitshift True that.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:45:58 UTC from web
                      2. @pvtflutters Like I said, it is way lighter than those - and the small amount of "gore" that is there isn't gratuitous, and certainly isn't the purpose of the fic.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:30:01 UTC from web
            2. @bitshift Oh. I totally don't even think I've gotten to that yet. I stopped reading around the time they zrrg erq-rlr va crefba sbe gur svefg gvzr, and have yet to open the file again due to lazy. xD And oooh, coding. I've been meaning to look at !MintRefresh's code and recode it from scratch but bluh.

                1. @elind85 I'd use it a lot more if I could moderate from it. :( Dumb incomplete StatusNet API.

                  1. @redenchilada there is a lot of holes in funcionality in status.net, in the free use version anyway

                2. @elind85 also when did you come back here

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:58:40 UTC from IdentiCurse
              2. @redenchilada That's only a little over a year old (less if you only count from the latest release instead of the first), so no, it's not that - it's not old enough for the qualifier in that sentence to apply (still procrastinating like a champion on that, but at least it's not something I'd have to take a day or three off for when I do get off my bananas).

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:59:00 UTC from web
        2. @bitshift *hugs* gotta warn people about that sorta thing! Now that you're back though, you gonna be up for some more SK later tonight?

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:49:54 UTC from web
          1. @toksyuryel I'd prefer to do some solo stuff for a while so my gear isn't quite so pitifully inferior to that of the people who didn't take several days off. (But yeah, it's safe to say I'll at least be on there in some way today.)

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:55:46 UTC from web
            1. @bitshift It's less fun to solo and it won't improve your gear any faster than partying; it might even improve it slower.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 03:56:35 UTC from web
              1. @toksyuryel The other thing is that I sorely need to do more quest stuff so I actually have some experience (in the non-game-metric sense), and know what I'm doing - even setting aside the expected ones in the danger room, I was dying far more than I should have been. And I'd rather not put the rest of you through the tedium of the low-level quests when they're just so I can get better.

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:07:27 UTC from web
                1. @bitshift It's no problem for me, I have an elevator pass and quite literally nothing better to do if nobody else is around to play with.

                      1. @toksyuryel Learn C++ and WAIT NO THAT'S A TERRIBLE IDEA

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:10:57 UTC from web
                        1. @bitshift AP Computer Science over here used to be taught in C++ :/

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:11:36 UTC from web
                          1. @redenchilada C++ is... an odd beast. It has its positives (it would've died out if it didn't), but it has enough pitfalls and traps that I certainly wouldn't use it on a multi-person project, unless that project had very strictly enforced coding discipline. (That and my usage of C++ is more like "C with objects and constructors/destructors" than the full C++ experience, so the code would start to look pretty weird as soon as someone started using proper C++ in it.)

Sunday, 22-Jul-12 04:15:57 UTC from web
                            1. @bitshift Lol that's basically my view on C++ as it stands. I use it like C, but use objects. Also I love macros. http://pastebin.com/6kQKgM3W

                                    1. @redenchilada Lol the longest line in my project is 4290 characters. But that's just an array listing every export the DLL has so..

                          2. @toksyuryel Jython is actually pretty neat - all the sanity of Python with the ability to get at Java-only libraries.

    9. @thatonepony On the one hand, I really have grown attached to the FO:E universe, but on the other hand, the conclusion of the story itself felt like a pretty good capstone, so I'm not sure other fics (especially since now I look into it, these don't seem to be by the same author) would... feel right (to put it really badly, because I can't think of a better way of putting it).
