  1. @bob @ginnymcqueen @sulman Damn. I'm not aware of that happening here as blatantly. But shows like "Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo" and the various "Swamp People" or "Alaskan Bush People" shows definitely do demonize the poor. In the USA though because we've supposedly gotten rid of social class, generally demonization of the poor has to at least be thinly veiled/coded.

    1. @csaurus It's like, you can't make fun of blind people because they can't see, but you can laugh at them bumping into walls, or at sighted people giving them deliberately bad directions. That's not ableism that way!

      2. @scribus Exactly. An enormous amount of discourse in the USA is basically exactly that, I don't imagine it's too different in Canada. That or it holds up the one blind person who taught themselves to echo-locate (it's actually a thing) as if every blind person should be able/willing to do that.
