4 minutes till nasa shows the rover land on mars! Check in at nasa tv or xbox.
-
@firestormdangerdash why didn't we broadcast the other dozen rovers we've sent there?
-
@abigpony only 2 been sent there. And it was but just not so easy to watch unless you where there. And curiousity is special since its the size of a car, new way to land, and is designed to look for life.
-
@firestormdangerdash we've sent about a dozen and we've sent rovers of all sizes. It's just another rover either way, though. Who cares? If it was people, it'd be different.
-
@abigpony no they only sent two (now three) to mars. The other two (they where a pair) was designed to see what minerals, etc was on mars. Curiousity is look for life, just life.
-
@firestormdangerdash i KNOW someone sent one a few years back exclusively to look for life and they found microbial stuff in fossils or something.
-
@abigpony uhh I remember reading that on a meteor that landed on earth had what LOOKED like fossils of bacteria but was inconclusove... Yes I cant spell. And the one rover in mars had anomolies in gas emissions in its tests but could not tell if it was bio or chemical in nature.
-
@firestormdangerdash lets agree to disagree, shall we? We're both running off memory and neither of us care to conform or deny this discussion's facts.
-
@abigpony Nope. Not memory, though my notes are 5 years outdated for sure, but im on top of anything intresting. And other then them finding pluto has more moons bigger then itself then they thought there is not much goin on, until they want to launch the submarine into . . . One of jupiters moons (it seems to have a underwater liquid water, with a lot of those building blocks of life).
-
@firestormdangerdash this conversation is over because i'll keep fighting my side.
-
@abigpony http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9hpX1SfPiQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player wait, we where fighting sides? Thought we where debating?
-
@firestormdangerdash trust me, i'll end up making this a competition or something. We are arguing sides, it's just that i know it's something i'll lose control of myself over.
-
@abigpony okay, just watch the live nasa tv thing on xbox or computer. They are talking about the other 2 rovers along side curiousity.
-
@firestormdangerdash no. Too busy caring about earth things that matter to a normal perso at this point.
-
@abigpony well seeing as its almost midnight I dont need to worry about earth things, unless ponies. Besides, watching the landing of something that could find life is a pretty big human/earth event.
-
@firestormdangerdash but it's happened before. At least once. They've found stuff. This is why i refuse to carry on this conversation.
-
@abigpony wait so by your logic because the wright brothers flew, no one should ever fly cause someone done it?
-
@firestormdangerdash I think he saying that it's not as big a deal as it sounds. The Wright Brothers flew, so seeing another two guys building a plane in their garage and making it fly for a minute will be *impressive* but not *monumentally titanic in importance*

@crusader8 Ah. But just cause its done once doesn't mean it is instantly old. Since this is now going to look for life, not minerals, its new and exciting.
-
@firestormdangerdash It's not about being old news; it's about the difference between "OH MY GOD" and "that seems interesting hope it turns out well for the parties involved." And for the record they've always been looking for evidence of life regardless of whether they looked specifically for microbes. I think the scientific research that would follow the discovery will be much more interesting and groundbreaking than finding the actual microbe itself. (i.e. studying Mars to discover when and how Mars had the right concoction of favorable conditions for the creation of organic life)
Monday, 06-Aug-12 04:54:41 UTC from web-
@crusader8 Oh I do agree, but how can you know what is habitable for an alien microbe? But trust me, I also love the idea behind the science of when mars was habitable (for us at least) as much as im intrested in life. Im all round curious. And seeing as nasa says 2 million people are viewing, some people are too.
-
@firestormdangerdash I am curious to find out what conditions on Mars created life and how they differed from how life happened on Earth.
Monday, 06-Aug-12 05:07:09 UTC from web-
@crusader8 (for old post) if there was life at all on mars, mind you. And if all of us were not started on mars then transfered to earth by astoriod.

@firestormdangerdash no, i'm saying this isn't something groundbreaking. It's not worth such a big hubbub. We've gone there with the rovers, we've come back with some results, now that the us is apparently going up there it's a groundbreaking thing and stuff. It's cool and all, it's just not unique.
-
@abigpony I would agree if they actually didnt get smart and look for what 2 million people wanted, them to look for life. Not rocks, like the other rovers. Thus this is unique. Im just watching to know if it blows up or not, so I know if the first decent search for life is about to finally begin.
-
@firestormdangerdash i shall request that you do not talk to me anymore.
-
@abigpony request denied. Good day, sir. http://ur1.ca/9wi37
-
@firestormdangerdash your first post hardly made sense and you mismatched thw picture to the text in the second one. I want to post a picture of someone flipping out, but this is all i have on mobile. http://ur1.ca/9wi4w
-
@abigpony it made me chuckle. But could you rephrase what you said? I dont understand what you are talking about. The pictures I post are rarely related to any topics.

@firestormdangerdash doesn't work on mobile
-
@abigpony darn mobile... Download the nasa app. I think it has nasa tv on it!
-
@firestormdangerdash not worth it.
-
@abigpony you, sir, have no heart of a true scientist. #shame http://ur1.ca/9wi1j
-
@abigpony don't worry, I'm not watching either. There are bigger human events I am waiting on
Monday, 06-Aug-12 04:42:53 UTC from web-
@crusader8 such as...?
-
@abigpony a human event big enough to warrant noteworthiness is something I won't be able to think of, because if I can think of the example it's likely not to ever happen (like the economy being fixed, etc)
Monday, 06-Aug-12 04:56:23 UTC from web-
@crusader8 what's a "stable economy?"
-
@abigpony exactly

@endre im watching it now. So yeah. Obviously there will be highlights and info till the actual landing happenes but the show started.
-
@endre oh they just said this is the pre-show. The real rover landing is in 2 hours. :s
-
@thatonestocking how high is mars?
-
@thatonestocking Sir. You need to settle down and stay of the funky weed. Just sayin, im a friend and I worry about your safety.
-
@endre see, this guy remembers
-
@endre not sure if bad spelling or actually excited.
-
@endre wooooo!
