@derpyshy Look at your firewall, now look at mine. Sadly, your firewall is not iptables, but probably Windows Firewall. Look at your download, now look at mine. Sadly, your download is not working. Look at your firewall again, back at mine, back at yours and try disabling it or so (or maybe even your antivirus software, depending on how crappy it is it may be blocking the download as well, but you shouldn't leave it off longer than absolutely necessary and not browse the web randomly during that time).

@omni iptables < pf

@bitshift It's better than Windows Firewall and it works for me. What do you suggest, then?

@omni I just said, pf. :P (Though that's only a *BSD thing, so iptables is still the best choice on a Linux system.)

@bitshift Ah, I thought you meant it like "pfff, that's awful", I was unaware there's a firewall named pf. The more you know!

@omni try clicking the download-link for 32-bit Alternative. does that work for you? :x

@derpyshy Alternative is a completely different installer, you don't want that, but let me check if I can download o,o

@derpyshy This one seems to work for me: http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/mirror/cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/12.04/release/xubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso

@omni But isn't Desktop a big PC with a ginormous box? :x
Friday, 24-Aug-12 18:07:01 UTC from web-
@derpyshy Well, yes, but you use it for laptops as well. In that case, Desktop means "system for normal users and not servers" :P

@omni Ah okay

@derpyshy Sort of, but the desktop version of Ubuntu is "desktop" as in the thing that your icons are on under some OSes (though not Ubuntu itself any more). Which makes it the most suitable version for anything that isn't a server.

@omni Yep. I mean, iptables is definitely good, and _much_ more versatile/powerful than windows firewall, but if you have the option and/or inclination to be using a BSD system, there is simply nothing better than pf.
