    1. @omni It's tomorrow, but yeah. I'm glad I'm not at work, or any place where the fallout from THAT disaster is gonna bother me.

      1. @ceruleanspark Oh, so I still have time to call stuff? thinks I call a riot, with smashed windows. Please be a riot with smashed windows. Please, pretty please...

        1. @omni Thinking of that, someone should totally host a Linux Installfest a few days later very nearby.

          1. @omni That would be the hotness.

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 17:59:04 UTC from web
        2. @omni Yes because if there is a group of people prone to rioting and smashing things, it's early adopters of operating systems.

          1. @ceruleanspark :(

        3. @omni Smashed windows, or smashed Windows?

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 17:59:20 UTC from web
          1. @livingdeadscribus Preferably both.

          2. @livingdeadscribus You're fired from the band.

            1. @ceruleanspark You can't fire me, I quit! I'm finally going to have a chance to work on my solo project!

              1. @livingdeadscribus Experimental nose flute, I think....

    2. @omni (And now, to finally address your first post on the topic!) Do Windows users even buy new releases, or do they just get a new computer?

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:00:00 UTC from web
      1. @livingdeadscribus Microsoft is definitely playing up the upgrade angle, given that an upgrade copy is £40, compared to previous versions 3 digit pricing.

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:01:08 UTC from web
        1. @ceruleanspark That is a significant reduction.

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:03:07 UTC from web
          1. @livingdeadscribus Still more than it's worth to me :P

            1. @omni Like, literally, I wouldn't want Windows 8 for free. I can get better Operating Systems for that price.

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:06:27 UTC from web
              1. @omni i still got vista on my laptop. im fine with it as long as i can run what iv got on this thing im not planning to upgrade or anything

                1. @xvinylscratchx that and i dare not get back into yar har again. yes good money was made but i got caught. got too careless

      2. @livingdeadscribus I know some people that buy releases, but most just keep using their Windows system and then completely abandon their computer once they start having serious issues and buy a new one with Windows. I would've went through at least 15 computers instead of 3 if I would've done the same, kinda insane when you think of it.

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:01:30 UTC from web
        1. @omni Yeah I have to agree with this! I mean, fair does some people might not be as computer literate as us but it's still cheaper to pay a specialist to deal with your problems instead of just buying a new PC straight off.

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:03:14 UTC from web
          1. @anthonyrothstein Depends on the specialist really. I know a guy who charged triple digits to install a printer, and I know several UK ISP's charge £60 ish to connect a modem. Those kinds of bills quickly start to pile up, and when you can buy a new, not actually terrible laptop for £250 in a supermarket...

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:04:29 UTC from web
            1. @ceruleanspark Yeah that's true.. my friend once charged £50 and a cooked breakfast to someone for installing Skype

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:10:04 UTC from web
              1. @anthonyrothstein And I still fix computer issues for free. I'm seriously doing something wrong with my life, aren't I?

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:11:36 UTC from web
                1. @omni Oh computer maintainance is a brilliant business for a bit of extra cash haha I just think i'd feel to bad for charging so much for such a small thing! I once fixed up 6 old computers and did a write up for about £20

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:15:03 UTC from web
          2. @anthonyrothstein The cheapest thing is to just reinstall your Operating System when everything seems to have stopped working. Most of the time, that's the real bottleneck and not any hardware issues. Vista stopped starting software after half a year for me, would've been a waste to throw this 400 Euro computer away for that, especially because it's still running almost like it's brand-new under Linux several years later :P

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:05:20 UTC from web
            1. @omni Well yeah exactly, haha, my desktop is 5 years old now, came with vista but 7 make it run much better and then now am on Ubuntu

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:11:33 UTC from web
              1. @anthonyrothstein Oh, cool, did you upgrade to 12.10 yet or are you staying with whatever version you run? (I would personally recommend staying with the LTS releases :P)

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:12:03 UTC from web
                1. @omni Humm yeah am on 12.10, it said multiple screens would work better... it doesn't! I seriously want to get my duel monitors set up again.. I can't deal with just one ahah

Thursday, 25-Oct-12 18:15:57 UTC from web
      3. @livingdeadscribus yes they do buy new releases in fact 2 people at my job got fire for selling windows 8 before it was officially released

        1. @xvinylscratchx I can only imagine your boss saying "Nobody is selling that god-forsaken junk in my building!" right now. Literally can't imagine him saying anything else...
