    3. @thatonestocking it's a Bronx accent although at the beginning of the episode I didn't get that. I also don't know how authentic the accent is, but it's obviously very pronounced. It's not so bad really once you get used to it.

      1. @pony It's actually a Boston accent. The stereotype that New Yorkers sound like that is, like New Jersey, one of those things they really hate.

        1. @ceruleanspark ah. I'm glad you know because I had to look up what accent hers is. Apparently my source was incorrect. I know Long Island and New York accents generally (supposedly Boston?), but I don't know how to place it beyond that.

          1. @pony Apparently the difference is largely in the way soft O's (like the o's in boston) are pronounced. Otherwise, despite protestations to the contrary, they're basically the same.

    5. @juicyorange @ceruleanspark most have just been saying it's a New York accent. it's possible the actress didn't know what accent she was doing.

    7. @thatonestocking @mushi I began to figure out italian accents since I lived in several different cities for months at a time over the course of about 2 years, but without that it'd have been very difficult to pick them up. I still can't imitate them properly.

      1. @mushi I've learned to recognize a stereotypical Osakan accent from mainstream Japanese, but yeah, even in Italian, if an accent changed it wouldn't bother me like it does in English unlessit were maybe the difference between Spanish and Mexican or something because that's a huge difference.

        1. @pony How would /you/ translate an Osaka accent?
