  1. DARN IT INFAMOUS WHY DID YOU PASS UP ON SUCH NICE NARRATIVE CHANCE >:| It's just. Not made to play neutral. Yet story made for it.

      1. @kingcarcinopony The game is outright not programmed for you to play a neutral character. If you don't pick a side, you can't use any of the upgraded abilities. At the same time the game gives a lot of "moral choices" that are way more dumbed down than they really should be. "Gee, I dunno. Should I go save the world be pressing this button or should I just kill everyone because I'm bored? DECISIONS DECISIONS" But if they try to pass that off as a serious choice, it comes off weak. There's no grey area in those choices, and there's no way to play a "grey" character without being weak.

        1. @retl welcome to modern video gaming Retl.

          1. @kingcarcinopony No, I'm not talking about the whole morality-as-a-sliding-bar concept in general. I'm talking about THIS GAME. If you've beaten it, there's a pretty clear reason they should have these moral choices count for a lot. Instead, it's all just tacked on BS to make the game longer. But they put so much focus on it that you can't ignore it. It's not a trope. It's poor game design.

            1. @retl no really, all games are like that.

              1. @kingcarcinopony Tetris needs plot significant moral choices.

              2. @kingcarcinopony What about Mass Effect? Their moral choice bars are completely independant of one another, and neutral play is a valid choice both in terms of the narrative and gameplay aspects.

                1. @ceruleanspark Bleh, but everything is so bland with the choices you made in one, you just get a lousy email or someone is at a bar

                  1. @kingcarcinopony I thought it was supposed to be delayed gratification. They're just reminding you of the choices you made so that something actually interesting can happen with them in 3. Having everything you did in the first game immediately reward you in the second seems like it'd be pretty bad storytelling.

                    1. @ceruleanspark I just want more than what they did. Which was next to nothing "hey I saved the council but they are still ignorant jack asses whoops!" Or "i let the council die but the all human council is full of ignorant jack asses whoops again!" It's just all the same.

                      1. @kingcarcinopony Yeah, I really hoped that putting Anderson in charge would have made some difference, but no, they're still worthless. Still, he might suddenly regrow his spine for ME3 and jack the human fleet to go help Shepard. It'd be a waste of his characterisation from ME1 if he didn't.

                        1. @ceruleanspark mass effect 3 looks like lost planet 2. And I'm totally okay with that. Just as long as I don't have to see another gog damn eclipse or blue sun merc again.

        2. @retl Things like that lead me to prefer P&P over vidya these days. That, and the fact that I'm old and cantankerous with a stalwart refusal to abandon my 8- thru 64-bit consoles of my youth.

          1. @scribusarcanum What's P&P? Can I eat it?

            1. @retl Pen & Paper (like Dungeons & Dragons, GURPS, White Wolf...) and I suppose you could eat it if you cared to.

              1. @scribusarcanum Ooh, gotcha. Haven't played that many of those. Don't have many friends in person to do so with. Though some say it's possible to play those online, I've never done that either.

                1. @retl Yeah, it can be done online, but a good portion of the draw is getting together with friends to do it. And most of my gamer buds moved to Texas.

                1. @kingcarcinopony I rather liked the second one, but only for the guns and the fact i could be a girl XD The story line was still terribly lame. The first one was too easy, and I haven't played the third one since I'm sure it is terrible
