So I have an Android phone and it wants me to do a software update. I've never done one before. What do I do?

@thelastgherkin what phone? Is it rooted?
-
@ceruleanspark I was going that anyway.
-
@techdisk Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, and I don't know what that means.
-
@thelastgherkin if it isn't rooted, do the update.
-
@techdisk Do I like, back it up or something?
-
@thelastgherkin nope. If it was over the air, no need. Just plug it in so it doesn't die during the update. That would be bad.
-
@techdisk How long will it take?
-
@thelastgherkin depends. Don't expect it to be fast though. And also Wi-Fi or LTE.
-
@thelastgherkin i'm checking right now, you REALLY wanna update. You get ICS. (Its not just a bugfix)
-
@techdisk What the hell are you even saying any more.
-
@thelastgherkin ICS = Ice Cream Sandwich, the codename for Android 4.0
-
@omni What does that mean?
-
@thelastgherkin It's a new pretty cool version of Android, only one semi-major release old (the newest one is Jellybean).
-
@omni What's wrong with the old version?
-
@thelastgherkin It's just not as cool as the new version. I don't know what version you run, but ICS is a GREAT improvement over Gingerbread.
-
@omni What makes it cooler?
-
@thelastgherkin A lot. Depending on your device, you will probably not get ALL of these features, but you will at least get most: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/whats-new-in-android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-feature-review/
