        @redenchilada It makes sense if you understand his position of proprietary software being bad for your freedom. If you buy an authorized copy, you're supporting the developer in making proprietary software AND giving up your freedom, as opposed to only giving up your freedom when you use an unauthorized copy.

                        @redenchilada He says that it's bad to use proprietary software, because it's bad for your freedom. He adds to that, saying that it's stupid to pay for such software, as you're giving up your freedom and rewarding the creator for taking your freedom away from you. That's all. No more, no less.

                            @redenchilada In your opinion it doesn't, in his and my opinion it does. I've seen enough cases of proprietary software misbehaving (rootkits in games, software tracking you, etc., etc.) to at least take Richard Stallman seriously. It doesn't mean I will agree with everything he says without thinking for myself, but I don't think his ideas are just junk.
