  1. They probably should make toys of the changeling queen and Discord though. Even the ridiculously outdated stereotype of little girls that hasbros toy divison is marketing to can't play properly without anagonists.

    1. @ceruleanspark You've seen your little cousin play with your ponies. She doesn't need antagonists; she just wants to stack various Applejacks on top of each other.

    2. @ceruleanspark that sounds like a good idea. Of course there's already Nightmare Moon, but few parents would shell out that much I imagine

      1. @pony Stick the villains in a discount 3 pack. Done.

Monday, 21-Jan-13 12:23:02 UTC from web
        1. @ceruleanspark Only producing new molds would drive the price up, making that the opposite of a "discount" pack.

          1. @thelastgherkin Have you seen how much the boxed set with NMM in it costs? Anything is discount compared to that.

Monday, 21-Jan-13 12:25:34 UTC from web
            1. @ceruleanspark People are still buying it though. Especially since that one set is marketed specifically to adult fans. They can sell it at that price because people will still buy it.

                1. Why must Hasbro anger customers of all ages (except maybe toddlers) by putting random background ponies in with the cool ponies and hiking their prices?

Monday, 21-Jan-13 12:33:32 UTC from web
                2. @pony A single brushie is, what, $8 or $9? The set seems cheaper if you're buying in bulk, as these things always do.

                  1. @thelastgherkin I guess they're counting on the desperation of fans to get the coveted NMM and DJPON3 (the latter isn't great quality imo)

                      1. @thelastgherkin I just figure they'd make more if they at least put in popular bg characters like Lyra or even Junebug.

                        1. @pony Again, just because they're popular with you doesn't mean they're popular with everyone; nor does it mean that Hasbro knows which ones you particularly want them to make. We just covered this.

Monday, 21-Jan-13 12:43:42 UTC from web
                          1. @thelastgherkin Junebug is at least named in the show that promotes their toyline, as are several other ponies. Any pony with a line in the show has a good chance of being more popular than one without, speaking of the target demographic as well as not..

                            1. @pony Note that outside of the continental United States, the show does not exist, so cannot function as a motivating factor either way.

                                2. @pony So a pony with like three lines and little impact on the plot is higher on your priority list than brushies of characters with multiple appearances or focal episodes.

                                  2. @thelastgherkin definitely not. I'm just saying that if Hasbro wanted to be nice and still add filler ponies that might not be bought otherwise, they could at least make the filler ponies ones with a minimal role in at least one episode.

                        2. @pony According to their model, they'd make less. The model predicts that bronies are generally cost insensitive and will buy the boxed set and a separate Lyra. Bundling Lyra in the box means they lose that extra hypothetical brushie sale.

                          2. @ceruleanspark yes. *sigh* It's both logical, and a great way to irritate those who are cost sensitive.

                            1. @pony It's not Hasbros fault that a statistically significant portion of the fandom has more money than sense. Look at custom plush prices, or ebay auction prices for "rare" blindbags. Even if hasbro weren't trying to rip us off, we're more than adequately doing it to ourselves.
