  1. Has anyone said "tabletop master race yet," or am I the only one to do that?

    1. @scribus That is also fun. Big fan of 3.5 and True20.

      1. @xeleanorxrigbyx I miss 3.X so much...

        1. @scribus 4 is garbage IMO. Very boring, very restricted. I've heard 5 is worse.

          1. @xeleanorxrigbyx They're already on 5!?

          2. @xeleanorxrigbyx 5 exists..? ...

          3. @xeleanorxrigbyx Anyway, I didn't exactly *hate* D&D 4, but it played way too much like an MMO. It wasn't a terrible system, but it sure as hell wasn't Dungeons and Dragons.

            1. @scribus I've heard it works great as a baseline for an online game, but it always just felt like a board game to me.

        2. @scribus I had a couple friends who were test running it a few months ago. Are you kidding? Those books are so expensive. It's like they don't care about the game mechanics, just pulling in cash hand over fist.

          1. @xeleanorxrigbyx But it's exactly like that. The old systems are good and solid. Updating is dumb.

            1. @nerthos Yeah. It just keeps getting more and more locked down.

              1. @xeleanorxrigbyx Less like a true RP and more like a digital game

                1. @nerthos Agreed. My favorite system was honestly True20. Tons and tons of customization options and only used a d20.

                  1. @xeleanorxrigbyx I actually never tried it. I suppose I could find a rulebook.

                    1. @nerthos There's one main book for that one and you can get pretty freaking far with it.

                      1. @xeleanorxrigbyx I'll get a PDF then.

                        1. @nerthos Yeah, the PDF shouldn't be too hard to find online.

                  2. @xeleanorxrigbyx What's True20 like compared to Pathfinder? I've only got experience with Pathfinder. xD

                    1. @minti I've not played Pathfinder, to be honest.

                      1. @xeleanorxrigbyx @minti I've heard that Pathfinder is pretty much D&D 3.5 Continued (by a different company).

                        1. @scribus Hmm. If I could find a DM (so very very hard to find) it may be worth a shot.

                        2. @scribus Pathfinder, according to my DM, is basically 3.5 more focused on actual RP. Going back to the old road.

    3. @scribus Is there such a thing? ADnD2.0 was awesome, but really, customized systems are the best. You just pick a popular system and modify it to your taste.

Monday, 06-May-13 22:06:43 UTC from web
      1. @nerthos Pretty much, yeah. I pretty much never stuck strictly to the books. Way too much fun to make up my own stuff!

Monday, 06-May-13 22:07:46 UTC from web
        1. @scribus Sitting with your group and deciding how you'll modify the system is the way to go.
