  1. If Doctor Who this week has taught me anything, it's that more TV shows need Metal Gear-style popups that tell you the character and actor's names

    1. @thelastgherkin At this moment I said: "This is bullpapayas! I hate you Moffat! You lied to us! It is not funny or clever anymore!!!" Not because of this popup but because of the ending.

      1. @broniebrown I disagree. I thought that was a fantastic twist, a great title drop, and a development that could have some far-reaching consequences, and I can't wait to see how they resolve it.

        1. @thelastgherkin I'm a bit sick of all the plot twists Moffat throws at us. The "impossible girl" was OK but I'm very unsatisfied that we didn't hear the Doctor's name.

          1. @broniebrown # It's 'Mildred'.

          2. @broniebrown You're kidding, right? Any name they could have given him would be incredibly unsatisfying.

            1. @thelastgherkin The whole lead-up and advertisement to this episode was "you'll hear the name of the Doctor" (heavily implied). I expected a resolution and I don't like false advertisement very much. In Iron Man 3 it was OK because there were hints to figure it out yourself in the course of the film. But at least they resolved this mystery at the end of the film. #

              1. @broniebrown So, what, you only like watching things where what you expect to happen happens, and misinformation and twists are bad?

                1. @thelastgherkin Twists aren't bad but in Doctor Who everything is a twist and it reaches M. Night Shyamalan levels. It is a twist twister that gets boring and frustrating after a time.

                  1. @broniebrown Don't ever read Homestuck.

                    1. @ceruleanspark Speaking of Homestuck: part of the episode opening was set in what was essentially a dream bubble.

                    2. @ceruleanspark I read a few pages (30 or so) and it was awful. I can't find any appeal to Homestuck.

              1. @ceruleanspark Half the fandom initially misinterpreted a line of dialogue and believed his name was "Please".

                1. @thelastgherkin Oh lord.

                  1. @ceruleanspark Which, to be fair, is no less ridiculous than what actually happened: villain threatens the Doctor's friends to try and get the Doctor to speak his name and open a door, the Doctor begs him not to ending with "PLEASE!", the door opens, and it turns out his name was spoken by an invisible psychic data ghost of his dead wife that no-one could see or hear.

                    1. @thelastgherkin I...huh.

                2. @thelastgherkin How could they? The Doctor said after that that he didn't say his name and Miss Spoiler said that she was.

                  1. @broniebrown Because people are dumb.
