@huggablysoft I'm not sure we're talking about the same character here... If Discord had anything close to a nightmare not even Luna would want to touch it with a 50 ft stick.

@northernnarwhal Discord is just chaotic and cleaver, he really doesn't instill fear. All he does is turn your reality upside down. Luna can /actually/ play on your fears since she has the ability to step into dreams.

@nerthos The discussion was regarding the topic of the week, and @huggablysoft proposed the idea that Luna would take over Equestria by invading everyone's dreams. I'm basically arguing that this wouldn't work because characters like Discord could go unaffected by that and he could even revert the mental state of those affected.

@northernnarwhal Well he might go against Luna then if that were to happen. Or (keeping in mind he said he wouldn't cause /much/ chaos) he might ally with another group to cause mischief, if everypony is going for the throne

@coffeecream @northernnarwhal It would end up being a battle for the throne that would end in chaos and insanity. Discord would retaliate against Luna using his powers of chaos. Luna with her power to invade dreams. Even with Discord having the ability to cause chaos in reality, Luna, technically, would still have the power to cause the destruction of dreams. Regardless of the fact that she's not Nightmare Moon anymore, she still retains her abilities. (Technically)

@huggablysoft The funny thing is that you can't really 'defeat' Discord. He exists as a manifestation of chaos. While he can't control dreams, he can easily alter the fabric of reality.

@northernnarwhal He's not really concerned with the throne though. And if Luna tried to take power by dream manipulation she could easily convince the yellow one of taking her side.

@nerthos Not to mention, Fluttershy (Discord's only true friend) is an element bearer, so if a character attempted a coup she (along with the other element bearers) would retaliate. If Fluttershy was hurt in some way, he would probably help her.
