so everyone feel free to flip off kotaku until they get the message that - I think it's called "nerd shaming" - is barbaric and makes them look more shallow than jock stereotype cardboard villains from teen comedies

@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline What even is a Kotaku?
-
@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline Hey, I'm in the FGC. You don't have to tell me to hate Kotaku, because I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of you.
-
@rarity fgc?
-
@scribus it's a website. They'll post things about stuff and expect people to care. Then people give them more attention than they deserve. Their journalistic integrity is disputable at best.... nevermind it's just easier to say is EQD but for all video gaming and nerdy things
-
@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline Fighting Game Community.
-
@rarity which game
-
@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline Does anybody even care about Kotaku anymore?
-
@bowandlyre you'd be surprisec
-
@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline Fighting Games in general. All the games are kind of one community. Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Tekken, Atlus games, etc.
-
@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline I rarely pay attention to it.
-
@rarity I see. Well I'm in the fgc minus ssbm because melee's competitiveness is determined by who can abuse unintended design flaws/glitches the best
-
@rarity I want to see the community for Clay Fighter.
-
@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline SSBM is a party game
-
@flamingpandaomg I wouldn't be surprised if there was one
-
@rarity It's still a fighter game though. Fighters are fighting.
-
@rarity thank you thank you thank you
-
@flamingpandaomg the creator of Smash says that it's not a fighting game. I'm not saying it's a bad game though.
-
@rarity I never said you did. Just that people take it casually compared to the others because of the nature of it when deep in it's roots it's still a fighting game. There's a meta-game and tiers and everything.
-
@flamingpandaomg I'm not saying there isn't strategy. But it's just too different from other fighting games, it's not really accurate to call it one. for starters, the K.O system. Knocking people off the stage? No life bars? In the case of competitive Brawl, random items that can drastically change the flow of a match? It's good, and it CAN BE competitive, but it is not a fighting game.
-
@rarity True, but hell if it wasn't hype at Evo.
-
@fortecadenza I didn't watch it at EVO, I was too busy seeing A GEN WIN SSF4AE WOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
@rarity Items aren't ever used in competitive Brawl, at least none that I've ever seen. They take all of the randomness out as far as they can, minus the tripping which they can't really do anything about. That's the only reason why I don't call Brawl competitive at all, because one trip can completely turn the game around and it's bullmangoes that it happens at any given time.
-
@rarity Wait, that happened? I went to bed after Marvel.
-
@flamingpandaomg Smash Balls
-
@fortecadenza Yeah, Xian beat Tokido 3-0 in grand finals. I'm glad that SF was hype, because Marvel was disappointing. A Zero winning, that's fun, right
-
@rarity .. which are disabled in competitive tournaments because they also can completely reverse a game by luck.
-
@rarity Marvel would have been hype if Justin Wong won.
-
@fortecadenza I NEVER THOUGHT I'D SAY THAT
-
@flamingpandaomg last tourney I saw they were on. But whatever because Brawl is boring with or without them
-
@flamingpandaomg >playing Brawl competitively >not just 4 players, 99 stock, all items on high
-
@flamingpandaomg good thing i'm not goos enough to play anything in a competitive level
-
@rarity The GF match was pretty fun to watch, though.
-
@fortecadenza Getting as far as he did with two low tier characters was pretty good. I wish FChamp or PRog had won, though.
-
@fortecadenza It was still hype the entire time. I don't even particularly care about competitive fighting games but I was yelling and kiwi the entire time
-
@rarity Your opinion, I suppose.
-
@redenchilada I don't play Brawl competitively, I was just saying that's what usually happens at tournaments.
-
@flamingpandaomg Yeah. There was a Brawl tournament at the last convention I went to and I didn't even care about it because they turn off everything fun about the game just to make it "fair"
-
@redenchilada Well.. it's kinda needed. If you're going to be competitive to see who's best in the group, throwing items and smash balls in kinda lights the idea on fire and chucks it into a pool of gasoline. You have to make the odds as fair as possible.
-
@flamingpandaomg Didn't I just say the idea of "competitive" Smash is hilarious
-
@redenchilada You did, but you were also saying it was boring because competitive was disabling everything. I provided the reason why they disable it.
