I'm losing my FrankerZ over Gurren Lagann

@starlynx Where are you up to?
-
@ceruleanspark I'm only up to episode 4, but I'm already seriously enjoying it.
-
@starlynx It only gets better from there too. The show is on a constant upward curve of escalating awesomeness.
-
@ceruleanspark It's ridiculous how entertaining it is.
-
@starlynx I'm excited /for/ you, 'cause you ain't seen nothing yet.
-
@ceruleanspark IMO it's like this http://ur1.ca/epuk0
-
@nerthos and the movies represent the graph piercing the stratosphere
-
@ceruleanspark Yep. After the end of the anime it just gets impossible to properly represent.
-
@nerthos whay is in the x axis?
-
@mushi Episode
-
@nerthos of what?
-
@mushi Gurren Lagann
-
@nerthos i dont remember what my chart would be like, it would be http://ur1.ca/epure
-
@mushi That's pretty accurate actually
-
@mushi Come on. You just put basically all Kamina episodes on the low ground, and 9 and 10, the two most awful episodes ever, on a fairly high place
-
@nerthos The start is super slow though, Kamina is a great character but the show doesn't really kick off until after episode 8, it's literally all upwards from that moment
-
@nerthos i only remember i startd liking the anime in the 7th episode and it got better and better
-
@scoot Yes, it starts slow but hits a peak at 8, then the two most awful drama episodes with a bad lead character, and then it gets back into the exponential growth in cool until it gets off the charts.
-
@nerthos I like Simon
-
@nerthos That's the point of those bad episodes though. To build tension.
-
@scoot IMO Simon shifts from bad to decent through the show.
-
@mushi Nothing can convince me that 9 and 10 don't suck.
-
@ceruleanspark Yes, it rockets back up, but they're still bad.
-
@nerthos It's an age old narrative structure. Can hardly blame them for using it
-
@ceruleanspark They get the job done at the expense of frustration.
-
@nerthos It was good enough for the good star wars movies. As a counter example, the Matrix movies did not follow that structure, and look how they turned out
-
@ceruleanspark Yeah, I'm not denying that. It's a matter of being mediocre amidst outright amazing episodes.
