    2. @randomwonderbolt It's a term used to describe thieves that go for the purse or wallet of the victim. It's origins are now archaic. When the term was coined, people carried small bags of fabric or soft leather tied to their belts with a thick thread that served both as a means of closing the bag and fasten it to the belt. Thieves used a knife or small sickle to cut off those purses from the belts to get the money without the victim noticing.

        1. @scribus Any pen & paper RPG player worth it's salt should know how purses were carried in the middle ages. Rogues are common.
