  1. Finding myself writing a thing about Flattr and why content creators and consumers alike could use it.

    1. @coffeecream hows that?

      1. @pony It's kind of a 'microdonation' type service that is hooked up to YouTube, or Soundcloud or Flickr, or can be set up as widgets on sites (This site, in fact, can be donated to using Flattr, but I don't think you can find a widget anywhere). You set up a monthly budget, pre-pay funds and then it will pay content authors a percentage of that budget when you Like, Favorite or Star their stuff

        1. @coffeecream I see how that benefits producers, but will consumers really benefit?

          1. @pony I suppose only if they also create content. There is also a Flattr button on any user's page (example: https://flattr.com/profile/Neurario), so I suppose if you just felt like being nice you could send something their way for being a sport.

            1. @coffeecream I gotcha. Maybe an artist, for example, could direct their work according to what generates the most income.

              1. @pony Right. A big example of how it could work is YouTube. Although video ads on YouTube can partially compensate a content creator for their work, it could take thousands or tens of thousands of views (many of which using adblocker tools) before doing it as a living becomes profitable. (Granted, it's probably the same with Flattr since I don't know how many active accounts there are)

        2. @coffeecream We did have a widget once, but nobody ever used it, ever, so I took it off

          2. @widget Now now, we're not bagging you out, I hope you know that. :P *hugs*
