Everyone seems to forget that the "men don't hit women" rule comes from a time where a) to be considered a man/woman you had to have a certain age and fullfil certain criteria, like for example marry and in some cases have children; and b) back in that time, if a female attacked a male, the female's parents would take care of the issue, apologize profusely, and probably lock her in her room for a month, as it was not proper for a lady to behave in such a way, and it brought said female's family great dishonor.
