  1. Though ultimately it's very much worth putting on record (despite being pretty commonly accepted) that great gear will never, never create great art, great artists will create great art. The gear used is simply the set of tools used by the artist in their medium, and while obviously having a wider variety of tools will give you a greater creative liberty it will never compensate for the capacity to create a compelling piece of art. As a matter of fact, I can think of tons of albums I really love that I wouldn't say are very well engineered, and there's also lots of art in other mediums I've enjoyed greatly that I wouldn't say had top of the line production value. With that being said, I also think having an experienced understanding of both the craft and production of any given medium certainly allows you to appreciate more why you do and don't engage with particular works within that medium, as well as engage with general works more critically.
