  1. @koa I've actually been writing a companion story to one of my cartoons as a sort of writing experiment and I learned a couple of things while doing it. In addition I've been writing short films since I was like fourteen so I guess that helps too????? anyway here are some tips

Break down the story into narrative beats and put it all into a sequence. The words "and then" should never, EVER enter your mind when you're writing. Instead, shoot for "therefore", "but", "because of", etc.

Applejack likes apples, BUT Rainbow Dash thinks carrots are better, THEREFORE they get into a fight over fruit. Twilight tries to defuse the situation, THEREFORE the rest of the friends get involved, BUT they all take sides, THEREFORE a full-scale food war breaks out. A big villain who really likes oranges takes advantage of the chaos to force oranges onto everyone, THEREFORE the mane six have to work together to stop him, THEREFORE Applejack and Rainbow Dash combine their foods to fight oranges.
