  1. I wonder where the idea english speaking people have that adding "el" before a name is a proper thing to do in spanish. It's actually a telling trait of someone being uneducated, referring to others as "el [name]" rather than the name alone or a title like "don" or "señor" which are used as signs of respect much like the japanese suffixes. I guess maybe from the uneducated people that leave the bad areas of mexico for USA?
