@ceruleanspark That could very well be. I did observe a similar ionization retention pattern leading up to the Sumatra superquake -- another 9.0 -- in 2004, after a series of strong (7.0-ish) quakes in the Ring of Fire about a month prior. Unfortunately, data back then is much less precise.
