Having nothing useful, or indeed coherent, to say this morning, I give you a Nightmare Moon plushie complete with Steven Magnet's mustache. http://preview.tinyurl.com/4245d4r
-
@colfax Pony plushies are the best. I want a luna plushie sooo bad.
-
@princessluna I wanted to comission a Twilight one from someone on dA but I can't afford it, they're not cheap.
-
@princessluna There needs to be an official set! Customs are usually far too expensive ;___;
-
@leonkfox I know. A more show-accureate plushie would be really nice, and something I'd definitely buy.
-
@princessluna Show accurate figurines would be great as well. Maybe not for my wallet, though :P
-
@leonkfox The blind bag/collector set ponies are about as close as you're gonna get for that.
-
@leonkfox Heh! Completely agreed, on all counts. Hasbro takes way too many "creative liberties". Not sure I'd trust them to come out with plush toys that actually looked like the show characters, if they did come out with any. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong, though. My bank account would, but I wouldn't. ;)
-
@astra Hey Astra! How are you doing?
-
@ceruleanspark Hello, there! Doing pretty well, thank you! Any better, and I wouldn't be about to clock in for work. Hee! How are you today?
-
@astra Well, I didn't die, and it's nearly the end of the work day for me, so I'm doing OK.
-
@ceruleanspark Lack of dying is definitely a big plus, near the end of the day! I hope that the rest of your day goes so smoothly. By the way, did you get a chance to look over my babbling about atmospheric ionization?
Thursday, 15-Sep-11 17:16:18 UTC from web-
@astra I have read through it. I think the ionospheric retention that you note might be due to deep crustal radon-release as a result of the plate movements. It's probably not something novel like a massive piezoelectric effect.
Thursday, 15-Sep-11 17:32:53 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark That could very well be. I did observe a similar ionization retention pattern leading up to the Sumatra superquake -- another 9.0 -- in 2004, after a series of strong (7.0-ish) quakes in the Ring of Fire about a month prior. Unfortunately, data back then is much less precise.

@astra Yeah, that is pretty much my exact sentiment. Hasbro probably make enough money off of the intended audience and just settle for the poor designs they put on shelves. It's a shame really, I'd love to have a set of the main 6 characters in true to show detail on my desk.
-
@leonkfox If the Jayson Theissen interview is anything to go by, I'd say Hasbro is definitely aware of us and trying to figure out the best way to approach us, merch wise. Giving WeLoveFine the rights to make shirts for the brony crowd is definitey a good cheap step in the right diretion. Producing toys for a whole new demogrpahic is probably a LOT more expensive and probably takes at least a year or so to research, prototype, design and ulitmately mast-produce. If we do get anything show-accurate for the brony crowd, it's going to be at least another year off, my guess.
-
@princessluna I haven't even heard this interview, do you have a link to it, by any chance? I would be very keen to hear it for myself :)
-
@leonkfox I'ts on Equestria Daily. It's an audio interview that's over 70 minutes long.
-
@princessluna Hm, I'd be willing to hear all of it though, even the FAINTEST possibility that Hasbro are aware of how big and passionate their unintended demographic is, I'm keen to hear it! Thanks for letting me know of its existence.
-
@leonkfox Oh they are VERY aware. In the interview, Jayson and the execs toss pony PMVs back and forth at the start of their meetings. There's no doubt to the show's popularity. Disne would KILL for this kind of demographic popularity. Their failed quest for it was partly responsible for killing their traditional animation department (See: Treasure Planet). Hasbro has pure gold on their hands, and they're going to manuver carefully with this while trying not to take their franchise off the rails.
-
@princessluna I'm pretty sure releasing a few high quality/detail figurines won't send MLP off the rails. But in regards to something you said, doesn't Disney have a large adult fanbase as it is? (their classic TV shows/films, not for the teeny bobber dole)
-
@leonkfox I still like their older stuff. I'll have songs from their old movies stuck in my head forever...of course, it doesn't help I'm at Disney World every couple years.
Thursday, 15-Sep-11 17:06:18 UTC from web-
@communistprime I am a huge fan of classic Disney, I have been for years, in fact my all time favourite film is The Fox and the Hound, heh. Never imagined myself being into an MLP show to nearly the same degree (or even at all!) but there you go :P
-
-
@leonkfox They do, but they sunk $140 million into it, chasing the 7 - 16 demographic. The movie was a complete wash, while their "cheapquel" department cranking out dvd movies for nothing was making all the cash. They shut down the animation departments in Orlando, fired everyone, scaled back their Cali department, and went after the short-term cash cow. That's why we have garbage like Beauty and the Beast 3 and Bambi 2: Electric Boogaloo.
-
@princessluna If I could draw I would have drawn Babmi and a pony called Electric Boogaloo making sad faces at you. It would have been awesome.
Thursday, 15-Sep-11 17:12:41 UTC from web-
@communistprime Hee hee.
-
-
@princessluna ...Bambi even.
Thursday, 15-Sep-11 17:13:02 UTC from web -
@princessluna Hey, I don't like Disney sequels any more than the next person, but I give credit where credit is due, and Bambi II was one of the best sequels Disney ever made, I would say it was better than some of the main Disney canon films (as they're called) such as The Little Mermaid (which I personally despise) and The Enchanted Christmas wasn't THAT bad. Belle's Magical World, Fox and the Hound 2, Lady and the Tramp 2 (especially Fox and the Hound 2) was where the real papayas was to be found. Still, I don't see Hasbro making a super edgy movie or anything, just some show accurate toys would be enough to appeal to us, at least I think it would be.
-
@leonkfox I just don't care for the sequel movies. It's so anti-Walt. Walt never wanted to do a sequel to any of his films. It's all Eisner-era shenannigans, and I blame him for the tarnishing of the Disney image. While others were pushing the envelope, he was only focusing on profits. Disney HAD to buy Pixar, just so they could still be relevant in modern animation. They lost the farm over Treasure Planet, while a year later Finding Nemo grossed almost a billion dollars wen all was said and done.
-
@princessluna I agree for the most part, I hate the vast majority of the sequels, but there were a few exceptions. Bambi II was the only one that added anything to its original film, as I felt a MAJOR problem with the original film was the fact that we go from Bambi's mother being shot and his inital grief to birds singing happily etc, and the film progresses onward like it never happened whilst the audience is absolutley devastated (or at least they should be) it was pretty apples poor pacing (if that's the term I'm looking for) to be frank, as much as I adore the film, and Bambi II helps to remedy that a great deal.

-
@leonkfox ugh, pardon the terrible spelling and grammar. so terribly distracted right now. But you get the idea.
-
@princessluna No worries, it happens to the best of us :)
-
@leonkfox I am being a little over dramatic, as Disney does have good properties these days, but I can't say anyone has a crazy breakout hit like MLP.
-
@princessluna Disney for the most part are dead to me, the Disney Channel isn't even worth tuning into as they never use to debut new animated shows but instead whore out the popular teeny bobber bullmurdock like Hannah Monata and The Jonas Brothers. Their films outside of those they have Pixar make (bar for the exception of Princess and the Frog) are also an absolute JOKE nowadays. Beverly Hill's Chiuaua for a big example...who the hell thought THAT would make a good film, for any demographic in existence?
-
@leonkfox I agree there. They're slowly finding their way again, I feel.
-
@princessluna I hope so. Princess and the Frog wasn't great, but it was a huge step above most of the cheapquel films (as you rightfully called them) and their works on the Disney Channel etc, but I don't know if they plan to make another animated feature like P&TF in the near future, if at all :(

@leonkfox It's nice to be nosing back around again. Thanks! :) As for Hasbro, that's exactly right. I know a lot of folks here do the Target runs to grab what ever MLP toys that they can find, and that's great for them. As for me, the current ones have absolutely no appeal, so I have none, and don't desire any existing product. However, my lost business is exponentially made up for by the profit margin of putting out cheaper, less-detailed toys scarfed up by the masses, so there's no motivation to put out anything better to pull in the business of those of us with higher standards. Completely sucks, but fast-food marketing is capitalism at its "finest".
Thursday, 15-Sep-11 17:36:21 UTC from web-
@astra Indeed. However, @princessluna has managed to give me hope that Hasbro are indeed aware of us, and I just hope this may one day lead to merchandise that someone of my age would feel proud to have on their desk and willing to spend the money on. (read the little conversation we had, this is the notice that kicked it off) http://rainbowdash.net/notice/509596
-
@leonkfox Yes, I just noticed that. And I sure hope that they do somehow decide to reach out to the more discriminating fans. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm in the same boat, so it sure would be nice for them to notice that some of us older fans have a fair amount of pocket change we're willing to toss out there for better stuff.
Thursday, 15-Sep-11 17:59:31 UTC from web-
@astra Exactly. The way I see it ,if they can get the little girls who (with all due respect) don't know any better about the merchandise and older Bronies buying them I can only see gain to be had there.
-
@leonkfox M-hm! It's the Apple (or Mercedes, or what have you) Corollary to the Fast-Food Economics theory: If you put out a product where people even think that they are getting a higher quality product than a popular but low-quality mass market version of that product, there will be a usually-small (but not always; see iPhone) but much wealthier group of people willing to pay through the nose for that product. Especially if it's marketed well. (Again, see iPhone.)
-
@astra Well either way, even if it takes a year or maybe a bit longer, I want desk worthy FiM merchandise more than words can tell!
-
@astra Are you implying Apple products aren't high quality?
Thursday, 15-Sep-11 18:28:25 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Well, sort of. Apple is much better for making products that non-technical users can use more effectively. Apple service is top-notch, and, through tighter control of hardware and software, as well as leveraging of simplified software and media delivery, their phones, computers, etc. are much more stable, and all in aesthetically pleasing little packages. It's that whole, "It just works," mentality. In that regard, for consumer devices, they are higher quality. But, the notion that their hardware and software is somehow inherently better quality? As a long time Mac user who has had plenty of issues with hardware being just as shoddy as their Windows- and Linux-running counterparts, operating system crashes that have required wipe-and-reinstalls just like Mac fans deride Windows users for having to do, etc. I cry, "Baloney!"
-
@astra Huh. I was expecting "Everyone who pays for Apple computers is stupid". I never asked for wholly reasonable answers!

@ceruleanspark Ayup. As much as I dislike Apple, I have to admit Steve Jobs had done a good job as their CEO, and he's rather brilliant...if not a little crazy.

@ceruleanspark Oh, shoot! I did it again, didn't I? Hold on, hold on . . . *clears throat* Apple is for L-USERS that don't know how to use a REAL computer! LOL! Put an Apple logo on an Etch-a-sketch, and an "i" in front of the name, and stupid Apple people will think Steve Jobs invented it, and pay a thousand bucks for it! ROFL! *cough* There you go. Don't want you to head off too disappointed. ;)

@princessluna I want to start making plushies so bad... but I am in the middle of moving... but hey, after that, if I get to be any good at it I'll throw a few on RDN for crafting good costs and transfer costs.... oh and band-aid costs...

@critialcloudkicker I would be so down for that! :D

@princessluna well, please note that I only have experience in repaiting and maintaining heavy duty worker-clothes. Oh and I made pants from scratch in that internetless week of 2007
