Anyway, I had a copy of Cory Doctorow's "Walkaway" loaned to me, and as much as I want to like the ideas and philosophy, I don't care about a single character and the narrative itself is confounding and overly convenient, filled with time skips when he can't think of how A actually leads to B. It's not a novel, it's a gorram narrative essay. And, again, any characters I have a thought whatsoever about are such wanly drafted straw figures that I can't help but hate them, either because they're grapety people or because they're batcavetily realized people. Absolute papaya, probably never reading another of his works. Probably not even finishing this. And I'm damn sad to report as much. Really wanted to like it.
