I feel like people in America are using 2018 as a baseline for how politicians should be performing in elections, when really they should be using more average years like 2012 or 2016. The special election in North Carolina is a “disappointment” when you compare it to 2018, a Democratic wave year, but is a 10 point(!) difference compared to both 2016 and 2012. A national 10-point difference compared to 2016 puts Trump in the doghouse.
