@abigpony The problem is that because you're not "willing to prove to someone how cool you are" they're not willing to do the same for you. All it takes is "Hey, how are you doing? Are you new? What is your favorite pony?" or something of the sort instead of "You're new? You must be a jerk, GTFO!" The worst that'll happen by being nice once is that they'll be a jerk to you and then you ignore them. The best that can happen is they'll actually be someone you enjoy talking to and you can like them. It's just like say, RDN. If I were to start up here and say "Hi", if all I got was "You're new, Shut up!" from everyone because I was new, why would I want to stay? If you were to at least say hello or something, I'd be willing to talk back instead of walking out immediately because you're at least willing to start conversation.
