  1. The Cabal has arrived.

    1. @abigpony I joined the fandom late, and I've noticed the people saying OMG MLP IS DYING getting newer and newer. I had a user newer than me tell me that I was the cancer killing the fandom the other week and how "people like me were changing it for the worse"

    2. @abigpony The way it was was the people who genuinely liked the show came around Nov-Jan and left when all of the crazies started taking over which started happening around May-ish since there were no new episodes. The fandom will die in 1-1 1/2 years tops.

      1. @jojo See, this seems flawed to me. Why can't newer people genuinely like the show too? I watched the same episodes as you all did, after all.

        1. @ceruleanspark The more obscure it was, the smaller amount of crazy people could know about it. It was originally about people who watched cartoons who had an appreciation of a well done cartoon but then turned into pretty much what the pony thread simulators are parodying (but this time they are serious). Its pretty much the sonic community all over again.

          1. @jojo Why does it matter what the "crazy" people are doing if you aren't interacting with them? You don't like them, so why deal with them? If you came here to simply enjoy the show, then do just that. Aside from that fact, it's not like everyone hopped in without watching it, I'm sure a lot of us did. It's just that we found other things in the fandom we liked to do and did that as well.

            1. @fallinwinter As an amendment to what I said, this is all my opinion so it doesn't have to be yours. Simply stating mine and trying to put in my five cents. If I did imply I was forcing it on you that's my mistake and an accident.

    3. @abigpony Agreed. It's kinda reminiscent of those stuffy fans of breakthrough bands who accuse a band of selling out when they get a big break. Take Dimmu Borgir fans, for example: It's basically divided into those who love the new directions they are taking, and those who accuse them of selling out.

    4. @abigpony My argument is that it's not a function of when you joined the fandom, it's a function of how dumb you are. You could join today and be an intelligent meaningful contributor to the community, and equally, you could have joined 8 months ago and contribute nothing but videos of yourself harassing pizza hut staff to draw ponies on your pizza box. Saying OH YOU'RE NEW YOU CAN'T CONTRIBUTE is actually only going to drive the decent contributors OUT because they're smart enough to pick up on the sense that they're not welcome.

    5. @abigpony The bad people in fandoms are always the ones who get more exposure. LIke how in the news, positive stories don't sell.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 06:54:39 UTC from web
    6. @abigpony Reverse that saying when dealing with these people.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 06:56:59 UTC from web
    7. @abigpony Which I don't see as a problem personally. I go somewhere, find they're nice, understanding people who are willing to get along and I hang around. If they don't, then it's no skin off of my back to stop talking to them and move on.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:03:06 UTC from web
    8. @abigpony My definition of crazy is more like the global definition of crazy. You wouldn't include some people but I most likely would.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:10:30 UTC from web
    9. @abigpony I personally think they don't ruin anything. I may not agree with them, but if they want to enjoy being mean, I just won't associate with them. Even with that said, I'm sure there are older bronies who are just as "plaguelike" or mean and I'd ignore them just the same.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:12:34 UTC from web
    10. @abigpony Well mine is how serious you take the fandom. I'm talking kiwi like "everypony" and using horse terms in everyday life. Also having them little toys meant for little girls and posters and kiwi. I see stuff like that CONSTANTLY

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:17:55 UTC from web
      1. @jojo I have a few shirts and that limited edition poster and that Applejack sketch. Is this good? y/n

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:23:06 UTC from web
        1. @communistprime I'm pretty sure his answer is no ....

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:24:07 UTC from web
        2. @communistprime The sketch is fine because its a collectors item and will be worth something in the future but the shirts and posters are stuff that most people would shun you for.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:26:04 UTC from web
          1. @jojo Then you're caring too much about others opinions. If they don't like you or the things you like and aren't willing to tolerate it at least, then that's their deal.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:27:28 UTC from web
            1. @fallinwinter I care about what the public perception of what it is to be normal. I like Adventure time and Regular show because they are not "girly" shows but I wouldn't go around proclaiming my love for this show (I don't really like it that much as I just end of making fun of it when I watch new episodes.) I still care about others opinions because I want to be accepted into normal society. I just know how to keep nerdoms at bay, just like normal people should.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:31:25 UTC from web
              1. @jojo I won't say that this isn't how you should act, because it's all your opinion, however, not everyone has the same opinion. Saying things like "as normal people should" implies that your one way of thinking is absolute.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:34:49 UTC from web
              2. @jojo As long as you're having fun and not hurting anyone else, I really don't see a problem with how fans choose to show their love for the show. But perhaps that's just me.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:35:51 UTC from web
            2. @fallinwinter Granted, that it is also dependent on the person who is being "shunned" realizing that they are going too far and not having respect for those who aren't as extreme in their love for the show. It's a fine balance and hard to maintain, but it is possible. All it needs is both parties to be understanding of each other.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:32:00 UTC from web
          2. @jojo The shirts are just funny, and they look nice~ Plus the poster is also collector's! There's only so many like'em. Most of my friends know I like MLP anyways and they don't care...if someone would shun you for wearing that stuff then they've got a problem, in my opinion.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:36:34 UTC from web
    11. @abigpony The problem I see with that is that it seems biased where "I'm an old brony and most of the problems come from new ones" I don't think it matters whether they're new or old, you just avoid them regardless of who they are. Unless you plan to tolerate only old bronies which seems off.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:25:38 UTC from web
    12. @abigpony I agree on that.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:27:06 UTC from web
    13. @abigpony So if you realise that "new vs old" is a poor selection criteria for social fitness in the community, why are you still using it? The new people are dicks because "New VS Old" filters out everyone who isn't a dick.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:36:50 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    14. @abigpony Just a quick question, when would've you had to join the community to be considered "old" in your book?

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:44:41 UTC from web
    15. @abigpony I don't necessarily think I could disprove what you're saying, but I think I just think that needing to name them "old" or "new" is pointless if you understand that not all old people are good and not all new people are bad. You just find the ones who you do like and leave it at that.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:46:09 UTC from web
    16. @abigpony Ah, I see. I watched the first episode on the 23rd of March. So I'm guessing I'm new?

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:48:22 UTC from web
    17. @abigpony It's like you've said "Everyone I know with blue eyes is really smart, therefore, only people with blue eyes should have kids". There's no link between your selection criteria and the result you want. It runs deeper than that though, the incorrect criteria you are USING is actively detrimental to the goal you're trying to achieve. By making blanket statements like "All the new users are dicks" is ONLY going to turn away new people who /aren't/ dicks, because they're the only ones who actually care about trying to integrate. The oblivious people who don't care about integrating are going to miss your cue and hang around.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:48:52 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    18. @abigpony But thats it, My Little Pony was nothing more than a marketing gimmick to sell toys to little children. The toys are something completely different than buying an indie game to support some small developer. There is the social stigma that goes with the toys, which I agree with. Also, Hasbro doesn't give two grapess about this community, they just want more moneh from parents of small children (mostly girls). Buying the toys doesn't give a thumbs up to the writers or animation company, the people who you guys are really fans of.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:49:33 UTC from web
    19. @abigpony The problem with that logic as far as I can see is that it's not a matter of "I'm sad that you don't like me" it's more a matter of, "I'd like to be nice, but you obviously don't care enough to give me a chance in the first place. Why would I even try if you don't look like you're going to give me a chance?"

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 07:55:10 UTC from web
    20. @abigpony No, I guarantee that hasbro doesn't openly give out money to the show. The animation studio and writers ask for money, which has nothing to do with how well the toys are selling. We would have gotten season 2 anyway. Its still a very successful marketing tool, you people aside.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 08:00:15 UTC from web
    21. @abigpony They do keep track of the demographics that buy their kiwi. I guarantee that most of the "bronies" that buy their dole don't influence their decisions that much. Moms buying stuff for their little girls makes Hasbro much more money than anyone here ever could that thats why the show is still on the air.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 08:05:28 UTC from web
    22. @abigpony The problem is that because you're not "willing to prove to someone how cool you are" they're not willing to do the same for you. All it takes is "Hey, how are you doing? Are you new? What is your favorite pony?" or something of the sort instead of "You're new? You must be a jerk, GTFO!" The worst that'll happen by being nice once is that they'll be a jerk to you and then you ignore them. The best that can happen is they'll actually be someone you enjoy talking to and you can like them. It's just like say, RDN. If I were to start up here and say "Hi", if all I got was "You're new, Shut up!" from everyone because I was new, why would I want to stay? If you were to at least say hello or something, I'd be willing to talk back instead of walking out immediately because you're at least willing to start conversation.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 08:06:34 UTC from web
    23. @abigpony Well I can't really say anything about threads since I don't lurk boards, but I just personally wouldn't feel right judging people prematurely. Either way, at least it seems like you give them a chance first which is what really matters I suppose. That being said, I've got zombies to stabby stabby so I'll probably be less talkative for a while.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 08:16:34 UTC from web
    24. @abigpony Well I was never a thread lurker myself. I came in sometime around green is not your color I believe and I mostly watch EqD and now RDN for conversations.

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 08:22:39 UTC from web
    25. @abigpony Well, you listen to their newer albums, like In Sorte Diaboli and Abrahadabra, and its easy to hear that they are steering form their old industrial heavy sound, and going down the more melodic, symphonic route (which I honestly prefer). And because they now have a big budget to produce their music, everyone's accusing them of selling out

Thursday, 13-Oct-11 13:42:11 UTC from web
    26. @abigpony And that's why I generally avoid Ponychan.
