      • @adiwan Ohh, so pretty much those really big near obnoxious to use phones. ... Wait, does that mean my Samsung Galaxy S4 is a phablet ? I keep hearing that my phone is really large. Partially thanks to the Seido Obex waterproof case though.

about 7 days ago in context
      • @critialcloudkicker Pretty much it. I looked recently for a new phone and all are HUUUGE. I carry everything in my trouser's pockets so having almost tablet-sized phones in there is impossible or uncomfortable to wear. I'd consider every phone with a 5'' screen or bigger a phablet. 4'' screens are big enough in my opinion.

      • @adiwan Select smartphones from phones where screendiagonal is larger than 3,27 and smaller than 4,5, sort by positive reviews ... Well, the top result is a Blackberry. Otherwise I guess the only really good thing out there is the Samsung Galaxy Mini line and some Iphone thingies I flatout refuse to talk about

    • Hmm. Now the question is whether the pound will keep going down or go back to normal, since investing in it now that it dropped could be a way to get some fast money.

    • @ceruleanspark So I've read a lot of reasonable opinions from people I respect on why it'd be good to leave the european union. I'd like an explanation from you whom I also respect on why it'd be bad, as you're the first person I take seriously I see talking about it negatively.

            • Damn "intelligent" power banks. I want to power an arduino off of those but after a short while the power bank cuts off the power because it's thinking that the smartphone's battery is full and doesn't need to charge anymore. In this case the micro controller is soo power efficient that it draws so minuscule amount of current that the power bank goes to sleep.

              • @critialcloudkicker That's an option. I'd rather return the powerbank and get my money back before I open and destroy it. On the other hand I got 3 powerbanks with 2600mAh for 9€.

about 8 days ago in context
              • @adiwan Yeah, it is always a bad idea to open up and mess with things you can return to the store. Especially if the draw of your Arduino is so very low that you can probably get somewhere around 700 hours on a 2600 mAh powerbank of 3 Euro. ( not calculating power-loss, and assuming the "F it I will go to sleep" is around 4 mA powerload or under )

about 8 days ago in context
              • Even with a small 1'' OLED display and a RF transceiver module attached the current draw is so small that the powerbank shuts off. A 3'' LCD display on full brightness doesn't trigger that function. Originally I wanted to use the powerbanks for my DIY RC car remote

            • OK... I was half-dumb today. I wired the modules wrong (the image with the pin labeling was confusing) but one of the three modules is definitely kaputt.

about 9 days ago from web
              • I'm a bit angry. 3 out of 3 RF transceiver modules that I bought don't work :-/ I checked the wiring multiple times and used different code but every time I try to write to the modules they fail. I ordered 10 more modules from China for a low price. Some will work eventually.

                    • I watched all of "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared". So what I get is that it's political dadaism coated in supernatural (body) horror and children's TV programming that comments on conformism and the bad influences of the media.

                      • @adiwan I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say that "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared" doesn't mean a god damn thing and that it was made specifically to be weird. Which isn't a bad thing.

                      • @mrmattimation I can see that to some degree. But they do follow a theme. For example in the first episode the protagonists were told "to be creative" and when they did something on their own they were punished immediately (blacken a painting) or told otherwise ("green isn't a creative colour").

                        • After a reasonable long test I concluded that the temperature sensor isn't busted. Somehow the pin I used on the arduino freaked out after a while. Using a different one solved the problem. That's what happens when you use Chinese clones.
