@scribus Nah I’m potentially heading there for a convention, and, if everything lines up, business. Supposing the state isn’t under quarantine by then.

In the 2007 episode where Springfield moves its primary up to be the first in the nation, both parties attempt to court Ralph Wiggum to join their cause, implying that Springfield is perhaps in a very important swing state. There’s a billboard gag in one episode that advertises a playboy event hosted by Mayor Quimby, a Democrat, and the event is endorsed by President Trump. So one can possibly assume that Springfield is an Obama-Trump rust belt community and that Homer’s voting habits are not unusual, but in fact the norm.

He voted for Obama in the 2008 Halloween episode but then calls Joe Biden a “jackass” in an episode a year later, he voted for Romney in 2012, and in a 2016 episode he mentions that he supports Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton (because he likes his chicken) and an Internet short later that year all but states outright that were it not for Marge, he’d be voting for Trump.

@scribus there’s an Internet short where they imply Homer votes based on whoever Marge is voting for and if he doesn’t know who Marge is voting for, he votes for the Republican.

the newest version of flash has some really useful features but it's so buggy and FrankerZty and resource hoggy that it's almost not worth it. flash 2017, the one i actually use regularly, lacks those features but it's probably crashed on me once in the last two years.

I have four stand-alone Swole Foods episodes I want to make before I get myself too invested in another story-driven series to see if I can make the show work as it’s currently conceptualized or if I’ll have to go back and re-work it some more. “The First Day”, in which we’re introduced to our three leads; “All Dogs Go to Heaven”, which is an allegorical account of my own relationship with religion; “Brain Dead”, about a zombie apocalypse; and “Mike Hawk Down”, in which we’re introduced to a fourth major character, Republican Congressman Mike Hawk, a tragically repressed gay man who finds himself questioning his own self worth and his place in society after his re-election campaign ends in failure. Hopefully people don’t think I’m tricking them once I introduce the serialization angle after those initial four episodes.
Saturday, 07-Mar-20 10:40:15 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation I doubt people would feel too tricked. Even a lot of serialized out-the-gate programs start off feeling more episodic as we meet characters and develop the world.

Hey if you ever hear anyone complain about how self-checkout machines at grocery stores are “killing jobs”, just know that they’re talking completely from their asses and have no idea what they’re saying. Similarly, if you grab a bunch of items from the shelf and bring them to my desk to inform me what you would have bought from me if I wasn’t “killing jobs” (me, personally?), just know that your political statement is completely batbatcave and all you’ve done is make my life harder by forcing me to reshop all of your grape.

Trump is looking so gray under his orange, it's almost sad to watch this ancient doddard as he drives this country into the Earth's warm crust.

@scribus I remember being shocked having seen a picture of him after he’d been in office a few months. He looked like he wanted to die. He’s a lot better at hiding it now but it’s super clear he’s not much longer for this earth. I genuinely believe if he’s re-elected we’ll be having a state funeral for him before his second term is up.

@scribus Obama didn’t blame Bush for this long and in that case Bush really did cause a lot of his problems.

@scribus and, if you listen to people on Twitter, the end of the world. IMO Biden over performed well enough in Bernie-friendly states that “electability” is waaaay less of a concern to me now.

the ultimate goal is to speed up my turnaround on projects of all scopes and i think I'm pretty close to achieving that.

i think i'm ready to stop being a depressing lump, so i've got a new cartoon coming out this week. it's around ten minutes and it's a waaaay different style than anything i've ever done, but i made it really, really, really quick. like... i wrote it yesterday, animated a bunch of it today, and will probably have it finished by Friday. That quick. It uses limited animation, squigglevision techniques, and reused assets from an abandoned project for the background, but the thing that REALLY sped it up is that Adobe Animate has a new auto-lipsyncing tool which is actually not that great as is BUT it provides you with a really good baseline that you can tweak around and it divides the time needed for animating mouth movement into, like, tenths.

Would I personally have said it? No, not in public, of course not, but this doesn’t take away from the fact that we have passed overwhelmingly powerful tax reforms, confirmed record numbers of federal judges, and brought the DOW up to heights previously unknown. Chuck, I may disagree with the President on whether or not we should be allowed to have slaves, but putting these disagreements aside we can get a great deal done for the American public, more than the previous twenty administrations combined.
Tuesday, 03-Mar-20 03:33:21 UTC from web -
Well I don’t know about the President saying the n word on live tv Chuck, but here’s the point: the do-nothing Democrats hate this man so much, they’re not even taking the context in which he said it into account

I'm sure it's not nearly so simple in reality, but I feel like conquering climate change is a simple matter of banning some of the bad stuff with obvious alternatives (gas vs electric consumer vehicles, for example) and watching the market self-correct. But everyone is afraid to pull that lever because it could be political suicide.
Monday, 02-Mar-20 05:01:17 UTC from web-
@thismightbeauser An actual solution to the issue is deglobalization of economies and achieving food and industry autonomy in every relevant country, but good luck cutting the flow of shekel just like that. There is a reason any sort of nationalism is treated as evil incarnate by mainstream political parties and economic groups, a global market that depends on countries not being self-sufficient is extremely profitable, no one can stop buying or selling or their internal situation crumbles within months.
A secondary effect of this, while a positive from an environmental point of view, is that a lot of countries simply don't have the capacity to achieve food autonomy due to having bigger populations than their fertile land can sustain. Take Nigeria for example, <1 million km2 of surface with a rapidly growing population at 190 million right now. Without world trade the country would starve, and lead to open war in the region. -
@thismightbeauser So you not only need to completely reshape the economy of most countries but also need to regulate the population of each to levels their own land can sustain (without further destroying the environment to grow more crops)
Some countries have a food surplus of 10 times their internal consumption, so they can keep their current populations without issue. But what happens with a country that has a food deficit of say, 50% of consumption? the population has to be cut in half or starve. Either way, you have a disaster in your hands with no clean way to solve it. You can pick between genocide, mass starvation or civil war, neither acceptable by any humanitarian standard. And you can be sure it'll spill to neighbouring regions.
In short, environmental damage is such a big issue because there's no clean way of solving it, nations and fortunes depend on the wheel spinning, and genociding the world to a sustainable population numbers is off the table. -
@nerthos I think some of this makes sense, but I have a hard time believing that the world's current population level isn't sustainable, just that we haven't figured things out yet. There's a lot of junk produced that isn't necessary, or made in inefficient ways that could be cut out. I get what you're saying about deglobalization and the whole "buy local" slogan that environmentalists have been pushing kind of points back to that. Where do you draw the line though? Even goods shipped within larger countries like the US or China can travel vast distances before reaching their destination. Do those countries have to be split into regions then? People would probably be freaking out about that. No more California oranges in PA? No way! Probably not a great example due to Florida being closer, but still.

I'm sad that I didn't get a chance to even consider Buttigieg, but I guess we still haven't had a woman president so having a gay one is asking *way* too much...
Monday, 02-Mar-20 05:04:04 UTC from web-
@thismightbeauser I was never big on Buttigieg. Guy felt so disingenuous to me. Still, I am disheartened that the youngest man in the field now is 77 years old.

Saturday, 29-Feb-20 04:05:03 UTC from web-
@scribus I listen to him speak these days and wonder just what the hell all those people are hearing, because it's not what I'm hearing. Even if you some staunch, right-wing, anti-abortion anti-immigrant blowhard, you GOTTA be listening to him talk and wonder "man, something's not right with this guy's brain". His politics are irrelevant at that point, he talks like my grandmother with Alzheimer's
-
@mrmattimation He looked next to death when he was rambling about how "one day, like a miracle, coronavirus will just go away." Pretty sure Mike Pence is eating his life force in an attempt to become a real boy.

@scribus The trick about it is noticing everyone is lying out of their asses, and just picking the lies you like most out of what's on sale.

@ceruleanspark It has been so long that I don't remember what I told you regarding the game. Glad you're enjoying it, though.
