  6. @cabal @mrdragon Nobody's going to say "man, this dungeon is so gay" to mean "this dungeon is happy".

  7. @cabal I can't speak to "mangoes" as an insult, but let me tell you all a story about "gay" as an insult. One of my exes, who sometimes wears rose-tinted glasses, claimed that when people say "oh, [x] is so gay", it doesn't indicate that they actually dislike gay people or think anything's wrong with being gay. So I put her optimism to the test. The next time I was going through a dungeon on WoW and one of my (presumably teenaged) partymates said "man this dungeon is so gay", I said "Is there something wrong with gay people?", and he said "Yes, they're sick" (or something very much like that). I repeated this experiment another one or two times, with identical results. So, from my admittedly limited anecdotal evidence, I have concluded that the old prejudices are still very much in place, and that people DO mean "murdock" and "gay" as slurs.

  8. @purplephish20 Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, once one is sensitised to a particular word, it's really hard to change that conditioning.

  9. @redstreak 1000% in favour of zero tolerance on bullying. Bullying almost killed me.

  10. @purplephish20 I'm not sure what the kids today are using "murdock" to mean. All I know is that when I was growing up, it was an insult-- a powerful slur. It was slung at me, over and over and over again, until I began to hate myself. I'm not the only one who this word was used to harm. Please bear that in mind when casually flinging around that word.

  14. @remembernovember I pay for this site's existence out of my pocket. I pre-pay thousands of dollars to run every convention and hundreds to run every monthly meetup. I put in EASILY 40 hours a week into contributing to this fandom. No apologies. None whatsoever. I do all I can (and then some).
