@vernandex "Who is the two-bit," since you have demonstrated your inability to read, is turning YOUR insult against Matt back on you, when YOU stepped up and purported to know not only the ages of every user on this site, active or otherwise, but the age of the original enquirer back to their own face. I believe it is a form of irony, but nobody can agree on that one so /shrug

Most of them want me to activate a gift card for them to “test” the system or some other such nonsense, I’ll usually go through the steps they give me, asking lots of stupid questions along the way, and then when I’ve “activated” the card I just tell them the card number is “zero”. Most just hang up at that point. One guy audibly huffed and hung up. Another guy got so mad he cursed me out and asked why I didn’t just hang up the phone. Scam calls to me turn into prank calls very quickly.

@zeldatra that's pretty impressive

Got today my first scammer on my company phone. They spoofed a local phone number (probably a SIP gate) and called probably from India, as the caller had an Indian accent and spoke English. They said they were from Microsoft and my computer had a "problem". I didn't hesitate very long and hung up. It'd be funny to waste their time but it's also my time too that would have been wasted.

@adiwan I've tried messing with a few scammers/spammers in the past, but I seem to be no good at it. They never reply to my responses, I must be too obvious.
-
@scribus I’ve been known to subtly waste a phone scammer’s time at my place of work, to the point that some of them, if I pick up and they recognize my voice, they’ll immediately hang up.

@vernandex sorry, we're talking about rats now???
Friday, 01-Apr-22 03:30:48 UTC from web-
@vernandex everyone else can do whatever the hell they want, I’m not the one advocating for controlling people here. That’s you. So take that individual liberties BS and jam it up your rear end, we’re all grown ups here, we can skip the “muh freedom” dog and pony show, we all know you don’t actually care about that.
-
@vernandex Are you aiming for incomprehensible, or is that just an unfortunate side effect of going full rant? Because I get that, myself, too... But regardless, I'm failing to wrap my head around "I'm regarding your post as a troll post, because of the software the site runs on" bit... He's not even the admin, he's unrelated to site software.
-
@vernandex Right, but how does you using FOSS make HIM a troll?

Just like Lindsay Graham is TOTALLY straight and TOTALLY doesn’t take cock like a champ.

@zeldatra I wouldn't imagine he'd have "champ" status.... he just doesn't look lively enough, in general

@vernandex I always wonder why the party who asks "Why do you care?" cares, y'know? This door swings both ways, as the Hermits say.

Saying Covid is over is not the same as Covid being actually over. Ignoring facts doesn't help. It makes things worse. I'm disgusted.
-
@vernandex I am fed up by people doing the thing that perpetuates the current situation. Instead of getting it under control it is getting worse. I want it to be over but doing the opposite is madness.

@vernandex Good luck to you and to the con

it is kind of a long shot, but are any of you nerds good with that Julia programing language?
Wednesday, 30-Mar-22 14:17:33 UTC from web-
@mushi A friend of mine uses Julia for his work. Personally I don't like it very much as it reminds me of Matlab and I dislike Matlab very much. Cannot help you there

@mushi First I'm hearing of her, sorry

@vernandex i literally need everything xD.
I accidentally ended up on a course on it and it is my first contact with coding and i'm screwed xD

Are there bars in airports? I’m flying to England in a couple of weeks and I just realized my return trip has a four hour layover in Lisbon. The Potato Knishes am I gonna do in Portugal for four hours?
Sunday, 27-Mar-22 15:06:44 UTC from web-
@zeldatra I think there's always been a bar in the American airports I've been at, I spent a couple of hours sampling flights in a wine bar in Florida before coming home

The stylistic influence that Edd Gould’s animation had on my work is obvious. Although I’ve tried, in recent years, to downplay it, I think it’s impossible to really deny just how influential Eddsworld was to me. I wonder a lot if what I’m doing meets the standard that his work sets. Am I using that influence to carry on his legacy? Or am I doing him a disservice, like robbing his grave and stripping him of what made him so highly regarded in an attempt to further my own career? Am I a representative of the generation he inspired, a piece of the future, or am I merely a phony, a copycat who clings to the past? These thoughts go through my head a lot. I still wish he’d been around to see it. His death inspired me to take animation seriously as an art form, but the truth is that I’d trade that all away, because I don’t think my presence in this game comes anywhere close to making up for what was lost ten years ago.
Friday, 25-Mar-22 22:01:39 UTC from web-
@zeldatra I mean, like, EVERY puppet* is a Henson-style hand-and-rod all-but Muppet these days, you know? Influence is just one of those things. Some algorithm online keeps telling me I write almost exactly like Stephen King, and I barely read any of his work! I uh... don't know if I got a POINT to that tangent, but. . . .

OK wow. When I was 16 I slipped on a brick wall, fell, and tore a hole in my left shin. I have a distinct scar for as long as I have my leg beneath the knee. Today, my Dad slipped while cleaning the pool. Tearing up his left shin. Back in the 90s, he patched me up and rushed me to urgent care. Today, I was able to repay him in an oddly specific repeat O___O

i made this car in 2016, when I was 19. This is the first time the badging - a very mature nazi joke, poking fun at Mercedes-Benz' origins as a manufacturer - appears on screen. Going back and forth on whether or not I want to retexture it to remove that. http://rainbowdash.net/url/876094

@adiwan It’s to be expected, honestly. The US outlawed slavery long before most modern American companies got their start, and the ones that do go back that long are from New England which was less reliant on slave labor than other places, I’m sure if like Coca Cola existed in 1830 I’d be able to point at them and go “hey this company owned slaves”
-
@zeldatra Considering the way scrip was manipulated, one could make an argument about company towns
-
@scribus Yup, thought about this too.

Germany has a toilet-paper-shortage-like event. People buy cooking oil and flour like crazy. Firstly it's because of fear that there will be a shortage as Russia was a big supplier of those and secondly some of these are used for donations for Ukraine. I'm just glad I already had sufficient cooking oil before that.
