*sigh* none of the OTG apps I've installed detect the auto-mounted volume, or they even say there is no OTG support - which there clearly is. That's annoying because I also have no clue how to unmount - but the phone LOUDLY protests if I just remove the USB volume :( #android #otg #notrecognized

@mk finally, I've always used One Media Hub (formerly Funambol) to sync my address book with their server (you can update it via browser, too). On the new phone (app restored) all I had to do was start it up, log in, and wait for my address book to re-sync. It's all there now. #android #sync #addressbook

@mk before (temporarily) moving the SD card I also used separate apps APN backup & restore, Call log backup & restore and SMS backup & restore - they give you a choice where to put the backup; and the apps were of course included in the apps backup. So when those apps were restored, all I had to do was to tell them to restore (except Android 4+ does not accept APN restore). #android #restore #phonedata

so, here's a tip for those wanting to migrate to a new smartphone: I used an app called "App Backup & Restore": it makes a whole archive of all your installed apps (or individual ones, or you can exclude individual ones); for apps with copy protection it adds a link to Play store instead so you can re-install. All written to external SD. I then put that SD into the new phone and just installed the one app. Then started it and asked it to restore; it automatically detects apps already on your phone and deselects those; it also offers to update those for which there is an update. All super fast and very smooth, with a well-designed UI - *highly* recommended. #android #apps #backup #restore #reeinstall #update
