I don't know where I found this link, but it's important news: #Apple's main #CUPS repository (on #GitHub) has very few commits since the main dev left late last year. There's a new CUPS fork at OpenPrinting.org

Also remember: the #FreeSoftware community introduced the first #OpenMoko months before #Apple launched #iPhone — and #GreenPhone months before that. Even with major... debut foibles, they were amazing—not just technically, but also socially: https://www.mail-archive.com/gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org/msg26330.html

With patents like these, #Microsoft can go after #Apple, #Google and #Samsung (no cross-licensing) and demand a ‘share’ of revenue from GNU/Linux devices. Microsoft not only can do it; this is exactly what Microsoft already does. This is why Microsoft is stockpiling patents.

Speaking of trying out all the emulators, I'm a bit of a fan of those which run in the browser. Full-screen the browser and you get the feeling of just having the machine to yourself. There's a hundred or so catalogued here, from the usual 8bit suspects, to early Unix capable machines, even earlier machines, 16 bit machines - you name it!

Apparently, pimping out a 2013 stock Mac Pro and adding an external GPU box makes it both faster and significantly cheaper than getting a 2016 Mac Pro with everything maxed out. http://u.daggsy.com/SV
Pretty much shows that #Apple doesn't give a FrankerZ about non-mobile performance anymore. -

Last Saturday I think I understood exactly why #Apple wants to do away with the headphone jack: Their software sucks.
An enduser was trying to do something so silly as using a video output adapter (HDMI) and simultaneously play audio. I'm assuming the audio came through HDMI, but apparently you couldn't get any audio from the headphone jack. Also, any settings/configuration menu is far too advanced for any Apple user.Monday, 26-Sep-16 20:01:57 UTC from social.umeahackerspace.se at 63°49'42"N 20°15'34"E in context Repeated by lnxw48 -
