  1. @spaceman Personally, I was really excited about #, so I tried several similar projects like Plurk, Jaiku, Identica. Over time, I came to understand # and this network became my primary online focus.

  2. @gargron Did you see the thread where @heleucht and other # devs are trying to make # with # work?

  3. @maiyannah @moonman @lnxw48 no need, it will "defeat" itself later on (by being sold on low price). As long as # remains compatible between all social-network software ( !gnusocial !diaspora # and all the others) we can be a good alternative to those bloated # islands. that is what makes the !fediverse good: # and # :-)

  4. @mcscx @schlink @kat @roland @tuxxus We all welcomed federated interaction with Google users on # I can see value in a more open # (more like they used to be) with #

For revenue, ads will be a part, but many people & organizations might pay a small fee for access to an enhanced API and expanding certain limits.

Unfortunately, I don't expect them to do this until two weeks before they file Chapter VII bankruptcy (far too late).

  5. @bes @vinzv One thing that I think is a real benefit from the # is that GS users now generally understand # (IMO, hiding the "@servername" part in order to stick within Twitter's 140 character limit was a near-fatal mistake in the original SN.) In the old days, # users were not really aware of people using other federated instances. These days, almost the first thing you encounter is different instances with different looks, different character-lengths, different interfaces, and different rules.

On the other hand, many users were # to both networks. They left and never returned.

  6. Based on what he said at the time, he felt that it was too difficult to evolve #'s component specs (mostly designed & controlled by Google) once Google decided that # and interoperability in the social space was no longer desirable (coincides with the launch of #). On top of that, his company was losing money (at one point, it was ad-supported, but users rebelled against the most lucrative ad provider, Google), and most SN users relied upon him for zero-price hosting.

  11. @clacke et al More accurately, # was created to require fewer resources than # Very successful at that. # is there, but still requires workarounds, so I'm not sure it improved.

Still, I'd support more # networks over more centralized networks. #, Pump, #, #, etc

  29. hi, i'm sorry if you signed up on this platform without realizing how it works.

pretend you have a neighborhood and everyone has a house. you can look into your neighbors house and yell at him. but you don't have to, because you can just yell at the people in your home. sometimes you can close the blinds and not let other people look at your house.
