RT @rysiek I'm going to set-up a #federation / #decentralisation of social networks assembly at #31C3, stay tuned.
-
@mmn "improved the #federation layer by referencing the #Salmon endpoint in #Webfinger XRD. This change was made to allow #GNUSocial + other #decentralized networks to integrate with !diaspora more easily than before." <- interesting POV ;-) https://blog.diasporafoundation.org/7-diaspora-version-0-4-1-0-released

@techdisk maybe ;-) rainbowdash is a world a bit different from our side of the StatusNet #federation :-) A bit like "from outer space" ;-)
-
@mattl ATM I dont think we need more instances.Main prob is 99,9% joining Quitter #viral I'm trying to explain #federation, remote following…
-
@gnumatic we must spread theword of !fediverse being a #federation of instances, #gnusocial.de, Quitter, #federati…→ #capacity is #unlimited
-

-
@dragnucs ah, I wasn't very clear... the network is a #federation of servers, some call it a federated universe / fediverse
-
@lnxw48@fresh.federati.net Oh, man... I've been learning for 1735 days already - need a cold coffee soon. Can you speak any other languages? Ok I'll try n o t to do #learn Romulan, because, that is anti #federation too much. What's my favorite Star Trek? Mine is Voyager. (btw: it's been 461 years and 18 painful nights since Suleiman the Magnificent's first-born son by Mahidevran Sultan, Sehzade Mustafa Muhlisi, died in Konya https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%9Eehzade_Mustafa )

for me: every of those systems would also be fine when people would run it #themselves, and even better on their own device (at home). E.g. twister was for me the 1st time I did the self-hosting. I could have done it before with them (pagekite, dyndns, ...), but I didn't (or wasn't motivated or had trouble). Now that I have it, I see the wasted effort(s). The distinction of #p2p or #federation should definitely be made here
-
@erkan the #lauffeuer article includes links to some of your #federation documents :-)

@theru @lnxw48 !StatusNet today is more balanced #federation than !Pumpio, where identica, frml.me,pumpdog, microcast, etc are all run by Evan

cc !diaspora (most: sharing, but don't really care about #privacy, #federation, or #data control) !friendica (Mike)
-
Merhaba Erkan!, that botNapping n o t correct since a subset ofFrench sentences interesting on grounds of, that now the 2nd #weekend this month 2 #federation got borked 1
-
@mk another thing that strikes me about the #federation is that we can have *real* #conversations ranging across the federation (not just snippets of talk on a single server); and not to forget #groups (while there are still problems to solve, by and large federated conversations and federated groups actually work)
-
As a matter of fact: the "time machine" (1) function is improved now. Let's see if this #psychological experiment helps people to see the #federation better on their instances. (1) http://oracle.skilledtests.com/conversation/244866

Do you think other SN users will at least 1x per day link to a SN thread on #another SN instance than their own ? So people "realize" that there exists #federation ?
-
There are those who talk big about #federation and don't run their #own instances (but e.g. make the #beehives larger): I'll come after you... wait
-
#Diaspora vs !friendica - I don't think there are more #users on f than on d, but the #federation point is true: "it seems Friendica is more developed than Diaspora, with more connections with #other social networks and more followers." #newUserPOV http://www.marshut.com/iirxwv/diaspora-vs-friendica.html

Agree, Hannes has actually done something: he created #qvitter. What the admins of that SN do and the users signing up there: is T H E I R + their communities' decision. What W E need to do is: make those people who promote SN "realize": they should teach #federation right from begin (and N O T prefer one, few SNs). Otherwise: we'll have again super-instances (and the problems those will sooner or later experience)
-
-
@simsa0 uh-oh :) another thing missing in #federation... if you see this, you succeeded. and BTW: /me is a she!
-
it depends, truth is: quitter was the first SN which had at begin #marketing done by us and was #OPEN. Only after a while more public SNs popped up. And now we're seeing #sheep behaviour (everyone running to where the others are). Their twitter UI "clone" inherits automatically same associations as people have with twitter (+/-). If the new quitter users are "taught" into #federation concepts who knows... We've seen some users who #switched from quitter elsewhere, but only some. BTW: I don't like the #qvitter theme either and I'm not sure how public the info about old.quitter.se is for newcomers but let's wait and see. (The centralistic behaviour I discussed in previous dent)
-
That's how we teach people #federation concepts ? "Try GNU social today" links to quitter dot se (only) which besides runs SN cc @mattl@quitter.se
