    • @adiwan I don't suppose the bosses would be swayed by the old point that a raise which fails to outpace inflation is a pay cut?

about 8 hours ago in context
    • @scribus I know! It's like a kick in the groin into my bank account. The leadership in Canada has stupid high demands in profit and we haven't reached them 7 years in a row. Also a ton of people here don't have a billable project, which is also not a good standpoint to ask for more.

about 12 days ago from web
    • @scribus Sounds quite the reason to cancel the session. My last week's session was cancelled because one of our group is a teacher and had to correct this year's final exams in computer science and mathematics and had to do twice the load because a teacher is ill for almost half a year.

about 20 days ago from web
    • @scribus I walked multiple times into the low-hanging ceiling lamp from the previous owner in my current home. I cannot fathom having anything than low profile ceiling lamps. A ceiling fan is for me a death sentence that would lead to my decapitation or to severe brain damage.

  7. Watched "Hoppers". A criminally under-advertised film. It's good but it lays a little bit heavy on the preachy side but it's fine. Fun movie. If "Turning Red" is your jam it'll probably too.

  9. The grass doesn't grow very well. My neighbor has replaced his with artificial plastic grass. I seeded some clovers where the grass refuses to get a hold. I prepared the soil with extra potent "cannabis soil", added some fertilizer, and tried to mix it as well as I could. After spreading the clover seed I watered everything thoroughly. I hope the rain the next days will be enough that I don't have to pay for the water keeping the soil wet.

  10. I have no experience with ink erasers, though; have had erasable ink, that rubbed off with a regular pencil style eraser

about a month ago from web
    • @scribus I used a felt pen like thing that had a liquid that destroyed the ink color (only blue ink) and the other side of the pen had a regular felt pen to write over the part as new ink would be erased on that spot. We called it "Tintenkiller" - "Ink killer" (the normal word is "Tintenlöscher" - "Ink eraser").

  11. I have managed to own and operate fountain pens for years before I actually had a significant enough splatter to get ink on my face today

about a month ago from web
    • @scribus I am glad not having to use fountain pens. From grade 3 to 10 I had to use fountain pens with cartridges, just standard Lamy and Pelikan pens. My sweaty hands were always covered with ink because the ink didn't dry fast enough or just pickup by my sweat. Also the ink eraser smells are nasty. At home I have only the cheapest BIC ball pens and Kuru Toga mechanical pencils.

about a month ago in context
    • @adiwan I quite like my Lamy pens, but I got converters for them so I can use fancy colored inks.

  12. Hey guys I just wanted to talk about FIM so... So far I reached the cutie map part 2 and so far I think season one and two were my fav I feel like season three and four were decent and the rest was mid for me I feel like there's some things that were repeated from previous episodes overall first three seasons 8.1/10,9.8/10 and 9/10 respectfully

about a month ago from web
    • @derpityhooves It's been years I've seen the series. You have a treasure trove of content to enjoy. Later it gets also pretty mixed but still quite solid. Once you've seen it all (FIM episodes, films, Equestria Girls spin-off, Pony Life), I also highly recommend the comics. They aren't in canon or at least very questionable in that regard because they contradict in some points, however once you get over these details and accept as its own thing there are plenty of good stories to enjoy (and a few atrocious blunders with their own train wreck quality and entertainment value).

about a month ago in context
    • @adiwan yeah I'll be sure to do that and after all of FIM I'll watch G3

about 2 months ago from web
    • @scribus This title sounds like a title a 8-year-old would choose who has been around teenagers and trying to be edgy and cool, and failing so due to not knowing anything in life and due to strict parents not knowing curse words as well.

  18. I'm playing Kiwami 3 in English since I already experienced this story in Japanese. This becomes hilarious exactly ten minutes in if you choose to watch the recaps of Yakuza and Yakuza 2, because those games didn't get dubs and for some reason RGG chose not to dub the flashbacks even though, at least in Yakuza 1's case, everybody featured has an english VA from 0 or Infinite Wealth, so English Kiryu is narrating over Japanese Kiryu's dialogue, for some reason

about 4 months ago from web
    • @zeldatra OMG. It feels like RGG was phoning in this release, doing the bare minimum or less. I'm waiting for the inevitable sale in half a year.

about 4 months ago in context
    • @adiwan a significant chunk of it seems to have been outsourced to other SEGA studios. Methinks this one was more of a corporate mandate since with Stranger Than Heaven presumably launching next year there’d be no Yakuza until 2028 at the earliest. Still I’m having fun.

  21. I've watched "Cosmic Princess Kaguya!" on Netflix. It has some nice vibes but the plot is brain dead. It tries to be clever but doing so it is hand-waving so many things that put too many questions into my head that everything falls apart.

about 4 months ago from web
    • @adiwan Due to lack of good new stuff to watch this last month I've been watching all the 90s mecha anime I still hadn't watched, and it has been great

about 4 months ago in context
    • @nerthos It was an opportunistic watch without much thought behind it. It was more of an act of curiosity than anything else and yet I was disappointed. Are the Japanese so oblivious and do not care about the quality of the plot? I get it that that was a more fairy tale like one but it failed to be one in my opinion.

about 4 months ago in context
    • @adiwan I think it's the ever-present 80-20 rule, and this one might fall on the 80. Lots of slop produced every year since ever and it's kinda hard to sort out while things are still airing and there isn't a full picture.

  23. Stranger Things Season 5 part 1 was quite good. A lot happened but it didn't meander as much as some other season. It had a tight direction and the editing cuts were at time creative, maybe a little too much in a short time. 8/10

    • @scribus No. I can see past that. It's unfair to point that out as the actors can't do anything against that. I bet CGI doctoring would look worse. It's less aggregious

about 6 months ago in context
    • @adiwan I'm kinda mixed on it, like I'm used to seeing high school freshmen who shave three times a day from all those 80s movies with 25 year olds playing teenagers, but at the same time I've seen them be middle schoolers before, it's not like they were introduced in this age category. They really need to do something about these screwed up production schedules, it had been so long between seasons I didn't even know if I'd seen the last one or not, lol.

about 6 months ago in context
    • @scribus I get you. I had a similar reaction at the first episode but I got quickly used to. Production schedules are always a mess. Many cogs in the system with any points of failure with as many compromises. I don't believe they did it on purpose stretching the release as they did. I think there are most likely scheduling conflicts and creative differences in the way.
My mother regularly asks me when new Outlander episodes will be released and I have to console here that's taking a long time to film. On top of that I have to wait for the German synchro to be released for download.

  24. If I hadn't this Humble Bundle Image Comics bundle is fire https://www.humblebundle.com/books/image-comics-in-10s-books About 17€ for bangers like Saga, I Hate Fairyland, Papergirls, and Curse Words. Moonstruck is neat, as well as Plutonia. Ice Cream Man I read only an issue and it's also intriguing as it's an anthology. Sex Criminals got me annoyed and stopped at Volume 3. Maybe it gets better but the characters were grating. mango Planet is a trash fire in my opinion despite the intriguing premise. I can't say anything about the other comics except most have fairly good reviews.

  25. I don't like resin 3D-printing. It's so messy and slimy and gets everywhere.

about 6 months ago from web
    • @adiwan Does it at least look anything like the sci fi cyborg bath kind of Ghost in the Shell type scene that I already know in my heart it doesn't?

about 6 months ago in context
    • @scribus I own the first Elegoo Mars SLA 3D printer. It uses an array of UV LEDs that shines through an LCD that masks the areas that exposes the UV-curing resin. That is below the resin VAT that has a very sturdy, slightly flexible and transparent bottom. The actual model that is 3D-printed is attached to a parallel platform that moves up (and down) such that the exposed resin is at the defined layer height. Sadly it's not that cool-looking. It needs about an hour of print time until the printed model can be seen while printing. It's also a source of my anger as a failed print takes that time to be detected.

  28. Then again, to be fair, I remember next to nothing about Urban Legend, and I guess he was deleted from Phone Booth so I've really only seen three movies with him (American Psycho being the last)

about 7 months ago from web
    • @scribus I've seen American Psycho, Phone Booth, Bladerunner 2049, and Morbius. So my count is the same. Morbius was the only film I deliberately watched to see Leto and even my pretty low expectations were somehow challenged by his bizzarre acting. Besides that everyone was idiotic in that film.
