Well I thought the Super Mario Galaxy movie was fun but alas, it will now forever be remembered as the movie I saw right before I got pulled over for the first time

Someone has put out old furniture and other stuff at my street. I yanked about 16 0.5m long metal tubes. I don't know what I'm going to use them for but I'm cursed with being able to craft something. Probably something for propping up beans or gherkins. It's freeing to make something out of trash.

I'm playing Kiwami 3 in English since I already experienced this story in Japanese. This becomes hilarious exactly ten minutes in if you choose to watch the recaps of Yakuza and Yakuza 2, because those games didn't get dubs and for some reason RGG chose not to dub the flashbacks even though, at least in Yakuza 1's case, everybody featured has an english VA from 0 or Infinite Wealth, so English Kiryu is narrating over Japanese Kiryu's dialogue, for some reason
about 4 months ago from web-
@zeldatra OMG. It feels like RGG was phoning in this release, doing the bare minimum or less. I'm waiting for the inevitable sale in half a year.
-
@adiwan a significant chunk of it seems to have been outsourced to other SEGA studios. Methinks this one was more of a corporate mandate since with Stranger Than Heaven presumably launching next year there’d be no Yakuza until 2028 at the earliest. Still I’m having fun.

I've watched "Cosmic Princess Kaguya!" on Netflix. It has some nice vibes but the plot is brain dead. It tries to be clever but doing so it is hand-waving so many things that put too many questions into my head that everything falls apart.
about 4 months ago from web-
@adiwan Due to lack of good new stuff to watch this last month I've been watching all the 90s mecha anime I still hadn't watched, and it has been great
-
@nerthos It was an opportunistic watch without much thought behind it. It was more of an act of curiosity than anything else and yet I was disappointed. Are the Japanese so oblivious and do not care about the quality of the plot? I get it that that was a more fairy tale like one but it failed to be one in my opinion.
-
@adiwan I think it's the ever-present 80-20 rule, and this one might fall on the 80. Lots of slop produced every year since ever and it's kinda hard to sort out while things are still airing and there isn't a full picture.

i have been told by a Venezuelan person to shut the cherry up about Venezuela and I suppose i have no recourse because what am I gonna do, call him a cherry?
about 5 months ago from web-
@zeldatra Plenty of Venezuelan refugee students at my workplace, all were insanely happy about the intervention, so were their parents. Refugee associations called for a celebration in the capital at 18 and at 14 it was already full, they were still there past midnight. Ex student I kept in contact with (in college now) I messaged right when the extraction was announced (it was early morning here) and she had to take a break to cry. I have yet to see one who isn't happy about it.
Machado is an F tier candidate for actually being in charge of the country and will absolutely sell all resources, however in the words of a Venezuelan refugee that was asked about the oil on the sidewalk here, "we don't have food why would we care about oil?"
I think Zion Don's current administration isn't great but this is probably the first genuinely good military act the USA has carried out since ordering the navy to clear out the pirates in the seas of Tripoli. -
@nerthos in the grander scheme of things after doing some research I’ve come around on this particular event but I have an admittedly self-interested dislike of any US military intervention anywhere for any reason regardless of the outcome
-
@zeldatra Everyone except the zionists dislike any US intervention, but if they're going to do it regardless, it might as well be an useful one with at least one or two good facets to it.

@zeldatra Cool. I bet you're not allowed to carry a baseball bat with barbed wire wrapped around it.

@adiwan unfortunately not but we do sell foam bats in my store so I might just carry one of those around all night.
-
@zeldatra Then I might suggest using (gray) pipe cleaner as a barbed wire replacement.

At my work they want to push Copilot and ChatGPT on us. All people who are participating need to fill out a questionnaire and answer what's been done with AI and if it were effective or not. I'm hesitant to participate and rate negatively everything.
about 7 months ago from web-
@scribus I have seen articles about that today. I spoke today with a colleague (is a graphic (3D) designer and UX designer) who vibe-codes prototypes. During our talk he showed what he made and was altering things during our call. It was wild how Cursor messes things up and needs constant supervision. I mean it's impressive that someone with no coding experience achieved that but crutches can only go so far until they create other pain points.
-
@adiwan I literally today sat down at my work computer to find an article from corporate about using generative AI to increase productivity. I work in a grocery store, man.

Silent Hill f earns the distinction of having the most uncomfortable sequence of scenes I think I have ever witnessed in a video game. I was genuinely dreading continuing on to the next room between each and every one of them. Well done.
about 8 months ago from web-
@zeldatra Is that their 15th Silent Hill? Did they have an A thru E, too??
-
@scribus With f being the sixth letter of the alphabet, I’m pretty sure that among a few meanings, it’s intended to be read as Silent Hill 6. Origins is called “Zero” in Japan, and Homecoming never got a Japanese release and is straight up omitted from Konami’s website, leaving this game as the sixth SH game not including remakes, spinoffs, and reimagining.

RGG actually did it.... The game fans are screaming about because they were screaming about it for other reasons. Kiwami 3.

Turn-based combat is king. All those attempts to do a hybrid approach are failing in my opinion. I think Diablo has poisoned these games with the fancy real time hack and slash combat. I like D&D for intense strategy combat and not for the real-time hectic confusion. I have a party of 4 people against 5-10 enemies. I am too slow to even judge the situation and make a good decision.
about 10 months ago from web-
@zeldatra Yeah. The companion AI might also do a lot of heavy lifting there too. Imagine how bad it would look like if the other characters were potatoes and did the worst decisions. In BG3 I was peeved off any time (out of combat obviously) whenever a character stepped into a trap or dangerous zone. I had to reload and redo a fight because a NPC character completely out of my control stepped into an AOE effect (Moonbeam spell) that was active when every enemy died. Then due to that dumbness the NPC went hostile against me because he was that dumb.
-
@zeldatra Hearing about the new battle system actually piqued my interest in playing the remake, I'd previously been put off by hearing about the plot changes
-
@scribus the story is banal dogapple but the game itself is very very fun.

I'm at the end of Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3. WHO DESIGNED THIS PIECE OF CRAP ENCOUNTER?!?!?! It is impossible.
about 11 months ago from web-
@adiwan The skeleton thing? I went through that one just fine but I guess that's the advantage of a cleric/pally heavy party
-
@scribus Wait until you try Wrath of the Righteous.
Pathfinder in general is number crunching hell since its first edition, but WotR takes it a step further crowning itself as the most number-crappy TTRPG I've played so far.
Which is impressive considering the same company made Rogue Trader, which is perfectly good and pleasant to play. -
@nerthos It was the fight. My party had a Ranger with the teleport moth swarm (my character), a cleric (Shadowheart), a wizard (Gale), and a barbarian (Karlach). My damage output was too low and all of them failed their saving throws more times than statistically possible.

I don't like what I was seeing the the Naked Gun trailer.
about a year ago from web-
@adiwan I laughed exactly once at the OJ joke in the first trailer but I have been unimpressed otherwise.
-
@zeldatra I got a slight chuckle at max out of this. I feel like the stuff in the trailer was off-putting serious in tone while being off-putting outlandish in the next. I don't remember the originals being like that. Also I don't like that he is so trigger happy for a comedy film. I guess, according to the Youtube comments, it will be a moderate success, as I have seen a ton of positive comments. Cinema is dead, I guess.

What if school classes were RPG classes in a game? Having a party of students that is composed of a physics student, a foreign language student, a history student and a religion student could be for example a fantasy equivalent of a wizard, a bard, a rogue, and a cleric.

It is bonkers to me that people give so much authority to the catholic church. If they were doing the right thing the child diddling pieces of Fluffle Puff were in jail and excommunicated.

-
@nerthos Sounds great! I was not very informed or I forgot the news about that. I guess my avoidance of religious news is the culprit.
-
@nerthos Plus, the vast majority of said CSA cases happened in the 60s and 70s. At the same time hippies were taking 14 year olds to concerts and giving them drugs to sleep with them, Michel Focault (of marginality theory fame) was leading a political movement to remove age of consent laws in France, and universities worldwide taught that you should do LSD and pedophilia was actually a very good thing for the kid's development.
It was a plainly insane era, objectively the most predatory and abusive of the XX century except for maybe Weimar Germany. -
@adiwan Yeah it was nice. They excommunicated like 900 priests between 2004 and 2014 when serious investigations took place.
Obviously there will always be incidents like with any crime (there are over 400k active priests plus a whole lot more clergy staff, nuns, monks etc) but the cover up policy is over. Now they try to do an internal investigation first and if they find anything, excommunicate and report to secular law, unless it's within the vatican, which as a sovereign state has the authority to trial.
